Yes, I have a similar character in the film. Its a very interesting and dark character who is bit of a social outcast and its for the first time that I am playing the role of an artist. The character can see things, which will happen in future. Whenever such premonitions come to him, he then paints them on canvas and thats how he converts it into a visual sense for the screen. Amidst everything he comes across this premonition of a girl. He thinks that something bad is going to happen to the girl. The artist knows who that girl is but the vice verse is not true. The girl happens to be a very famous ramp model. He just cant figure out how to approach her and save her life. In all the character has shades of intrigue and mystery attached to it.
In most of the horror films we have seen that its normally the soothsayer or the tantrik who can foresee future, so is your character on similar lines?
No, its not the case. if we were to look our horror films from a traditional point of view then there is always a character of tantrik in it. There is also a haveli, which for most of the time remains haunted, and its a place where all the ghosts reside. We have tried in Raaz 2 to change the traditional angle. From the beginning itself we wanted to urbanize the story, we basically wanted to convey that if you are residing in an urban city like Mumbai what are those things, which can scare you when he or she reaches back home. We have tried to tap that element in this film. We are not following the norms of traditional Indian horror films. My character is someone who is a believer of ghosts and spirits. There are also few characters in the film that dont buy this belief.
That also reminds me that the role is very similar to the one, which Rekha portrayed in Bhoot.
Look, I have not seen Bhoot so it wont be wise on my part to comment on it. But with firm conviction I can say this that the character I play in the film has lots of intrigue elements attached to it coupled with mystery. It will be someone that people will remember long after they have seen the film.
You also sport a new look in the film, tell us more?
I play an artist in the film and the character is someone who is bit mad. I have tried to do something different in terms of my looks. Its a very drastic look; my character wears torn jeans and old shoes. With my beard I have tried to do something different.
Why is it that artist are normally related with such look?
Well, in films we have shown most of artist sporting beard and tattered clothes. With my beard and moustache I have tried to give a different look.
The music of Raaz was a super duper success, how is the music of Raaz 2?
All the tracks of Raaz 2 will be chartbusters. Most of the films of Vishesh Films always had excellent music in them. Be it Raaz or Aashiqui or Gangster - all these films had benefited the music company and helped them make money. Nadeem-Shravan had given excellent music in Raaz and for this film we have tried to do something different. The tracks have a different feel altogether. There are many artists in the film who have helped with the music of Raaz 2. We wanted to take the best out of everyone. The final product has turned out to be superb.
Raaz was also a super duper success in terms of commercial business, is there any pressure on the team to meet with a similar fate?
No, it was absolutely essential for us to detach ourselves from the original film. There are characters from the original film, which have been carried forward in this film. The story is entirely different and director of the film is also new. They have a different sensibility only. Yes, the reputation of old Raaz is still there among people. But it was essential on our part to do something different, which is in tune with modern times. I wont categorize Raaz 2 as purely a horror film. Only creating horror does not guarantee success. Audience will like a film only if there are relatable characters in the film and there are human stories ingrained in them. And our new Raaz 2 has everything.
Will we see you kissing in this film too?
Well, I stopped it long time back. You guys are still stuck on it.
Lastly whats your expectation from the film?
Its going to be a huge film and I can say this with utmost conviction. I am pretty sure that after people have watched the film the visuals will stay in viewers mind. They probably wont have seen a spookier film than this.
Thanks a ton.
