Q. Aamir why did you opt for Shammi Kapoor to do the honors for the music release of Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na. Any specific reasons? A. The only reason for opting for Shammi Ji every time is that whenever I have taken a new initiative or started something new, I have always looked for Shammi Ji 's blessings. Even at the time of launch of my debut film QSQT, I started off only after taking Shammi Ji's blessings. Only after having taken blessing of Shammi Ji began work on Taare Zameen Par, which was my debut film as a director. This time JTYJN happens to be the debut film of my nephew Imran.
After the stupendous success of Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan is back with his latest offering Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa. The film also marks the debut of his nephew Imran Khan and with Abbas Tyrewala donning the role of director; the perfectionist Khan has left no stone unturned to bring back the glory he tasted years ago with QSQT. In a free wheeling conversation he reveals more.

The only reason for opting FOR Shammi Ji every time is that whenever I have taken a new initiative or started something new, I have always looked for Shammi Ji s blessings. Even at the time of launch of my debut film QSQT, I started off only after taking Shammi Jis blessings. Imran would be making his debut with this film and for the precise reason we have come to Shammi Jis house for his blessings. He has proved to be my lucky mascot. Shammi uncle has proven extremely lucky for me.
The occasion is the launch of the music of JTYJN. Tell us a bit about the music of the film?
I guess A R Rahman who has composed the music of the film has given a youthful music after ages. The music of the film is excellent. Abbas Tyrewala has penned the lyrics for the song and they are very unusual. The music of JTYJN is very youthful and fresh. I personally feel that Rahman has given such sort of music after long.
Your nephew Imran would be launched with this film. Judging by the scale it seems you have made all the preparation for a grand launch of your nephew.
If were to see the first promo of the film then you will realise that I dont believe in launches. For me films are important and whoever suits the part should be there in the film. JTYJN was never designed as a launch for Imran Khan. It was a script that Abbas came to me with and I liked it very much. I liked the script a lot and Abbas in the first place wanted Imran to be part of the film. Abbas had met Imran before and had also done his screen test. I have this inherent desire that whatever films are made under my banner, it should convince me as a producer. I dont believe in launches. I love Imran and am always there for him but I will never make him do anything, which I believe is not right.
How difficult was the whole exercise of getting Mansoor Khan back to produce this film?
A scene from JTYJN
My biggest contribution for this film is that I got Mansoor Khan for this film. My biggest task as a producer was to get Mansoor on board for this film. We all were trying hard to bring back Mansoor and his association with films is established once again. The happiest thing being that he is also the producer of the film. I am sincerely hoping that he directs a film after this.
This is also your first film as a producer where you wont be seen acting.
Yes this is my first film as a producer where I am not acting. This actually is a step forward for my production house. All I hope for is that whatever film comes out from my production house are all good films and people enjoy seeing them. In the past 20 years I have established myself as an actor, got love and affection from people, now my effort would only be to choose good stories.
There is also news floating all around that you are doing tie up with only those media channels that are willing to take the combo of JTYJN and Ghajini, how true is it?
No, there is nothing of such sort. I am not resorting to pressure tactic of any sort. Its true that in the capacity of a producer I am all behind JTYJN and since Imran is someone whom I love a lot so right now all my attention is on him only. I am trying with all my might that JTYJN gets a decent release everywhere. The film has turned out to be very good and I am happy as a producer. I am pretty sure that people will like this film.
OK Aamir, what do you look for in a script?
I always look for those things in my script as a producer what I have always looked for as an actor. I should fall in love with the story. I should fully believe in the script and the director. I must support my director fully in the capacity of a producer and give him a good release and a right platform to make a good film. I am very particular that where my name goes. Everything should be of very high quality.
With the song Pappu, you took a dig at Salman Khan, what made you do so?
No, not at all. Pappu Cant Dance is certainly not modelled on Salman Khan. According to me Salman Khan dances pretty well and compared to me he is a far better dancer. Pappu is not a take on Salman Khan, not at all.
The release of JTYJN is clashing with Love Story 2050. Dont you feel both the films will suffer at the box office?
Harry Baweja is a very good friend of mine and I had put in effort from my side to avert the clash of the two films but this was not to happen. I personally think that so many films these days are releasing that there is not a single week, which goes without any film. Harrys film has turned out to be good and my best wishes arte with him. I am only hoping that both the films do wonder at the box office and are appreciated by the masses. There are so many films, which got released on the same day, and both were hits. Welcome and Taare Zameen Par did good at the box office, similarly Gadar and Lagaan and then Ghayal and Dil did wonders at the box office. If a film is good its bound to do well but if a film is bad then what ever time its released, it wont appeal to the masses. It hardly makes any difference.
Any comments on your nephew Imran Khan.
Imran has a great screen presence. I think he is highly watchable and has done a great ob in his debut film. I also feel that he has a lot to learn. I think he has done lots of improvement even while shooting the film. I think he has lots of potential and how well he does for himself in future is something one has to wait and see. I think he is good but what the audience thinks of him matters the most. I genuinely think that he has lots of potential but at the end of the day its all up to him that how much he pumps in.
You also took a dig at SRK in your blog and called him a dog. Why did you do it?
No no, SRK is a very dear friend of mine and I have the highest respect and regards for him. The blog was in good humour and a lot of people found it really funny but there were also some who did not found it funny. Some of my fans felt that I should not have said that. To al those people who were uncomfortable with that post or were disturbed by it, my sincere apologies. I did not mean to upset anybody, that was never my intention, my intention was just in good humour so if any fan of mine or those of SRK have been upset, my apologies once again. As far as SRK is concerned, he is a very close friend and there is no misunderstanding between us.
Did you speak to SRK after the incident?
No but I am sure that it will surely happen soon. Now I also will have to call Salman (smiles) but thats good, will finally get to speak to both. I only have love and affection for SRK.
Tell us a bit about Genelia, actress of JTYJN?
Genelia is very good and she is just excellent. She has done two three films in past but could not get much success, she is not yet established in a full fledged fashion in the film industry but has been doing good in South. But all said and done she is very talented and she reminds me of the initial days of Juhi Chawla though she did not gain much success in her initial days but later on she proved herself.
A R Rahman has composed the soundtrack of the film; you share a long association with him.
He is truly a genius and is an excellent creative person. He is a delight to work with but to top it all he is a very good human being. He really amazes you when he comes out with his work. He is really one of the gems of our country and we should really be proud of him.
You also share this amazing rapport with T Series; all your blockbusters have come under the stable of T Series
Yes, thats true, when the music of QSQT happened it was done by T Series only. We both share a very long association. Whenever we have worked together, our films have done wonders at the box office. We have been lucky for each other. QSQT, Dil, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi, Taare Zameen Par were all super success.
This film is Abbas debut film as a director, what made you sign him as a director?
Abbas is a great director and has done a wonderful job; he has so much of energy in him, so much so that sometimes even I get tired. He has lots of positive energy in himself and has written a script, which is very effervescent and very peppy. He has written some amazing lovely lines for the film, as he is also an amazing dialogue writer. There were no changes in the script penned by him.
On a scale of ten, how will you rate Imran as an actor?
I am a very strict person so I will rate him as six on a scale of ten.
Do you find any similarity between yourself and Imran?
Whosoever has seen the film has said that we resemble a lot. When they see Imran, the facial features remind them of me but I dont think so, i think I am much better looking them him. But jokes apart he is much better than me and thats one of his strengths. The camera loves him; lets see how people like him.
Ok, how long you people get to see you in this bald look of yours?
I guess this will remain so till the time I am busy shooting for Ghajini. Now my muscles are completely repaired. Hopefully in next two three days, I will resume shooting for the film and post that the action sequences too will start (smiles).
Lastly, there is blog war going on these days between you, Amitabh Bachchan and others. How do you react to the whole scenario?
I am not at war with anyone. I have not read Amit Jis blogs so I would refrain from making any comments but I will certainly go an read them. I dont know what he has written and as far as SRK is concerned, I only have respect for SRK and people who read my blogs regularly will vouch for it.
