I Desperately Wanted To Break My Image: Dev

I Desperately Wanted To Break My Image

Chandi Mukherjee26 Mar 2009

Challenge is the fourth film of actor Dev. First he was seen in I Love You, then in Premer Kahini and Mon Maane Na. In the meantime he appeared in two item numbers in two films one is ChirodiniTumi Je Amar by Raaj Chakraborty and Jackpot by Kaushik Ganguly. These dance numbers were quite peppy and Dev proved that he could handle item numbers very easily. Here is an excerpt of an interview prior to the release of the film Challenge.

What does Challenge means to you?

A lot. I have totally challenged the earlier Dev at this film.

Even the director of Challenge has said the same thing.

(Laughs) I owe a lot to Raaj da for selecting me in his movie.

How you have changed the earlier yourself in this movie?

I have taken a huge risk. Earlier the films I did were all super hit. I created an image and a fan following.

Are you changing your lover boy image in this film?

Challenge is also a lover story, so I am still a lover boy in this film. But I had a image of chocolate boy, that I have broken in this film. I have become an angry young man.

Macho kind of thing?

Lots of action is there.

In your earlier film you have did some ‘dhishum dhishum’ isn′t it? Then where lies the difference?

The role I am playing in this film believes in throwing challenge to anything. Right from ‘patao’ a girl to ‘pitao’ the goons. This is the kind of image I have carried all through the film.

Were you not satisfied with the image you built in your films?

The question is not about satisfaction. The question is about breaking my own image. I was definitely satisfied with the chocolate lover by image, but I wanted to do something different this time.

How the offer came to you?

I did a cameo in Raaj da′s first film ChirodiniTumi Je Amar.

An item number?

Yes, “pante tali, pocket khali” Raaj da was expressed by my passion or good work. The he said he might take me in a totally different kind of film.

Did he say anything about the action hero image of Challenge then?

Not actually. But during the item number shoot I became a fan of Raaj da. So I decided to act in his next film without knowing the nature of the role. Only I have that confidence on him that he would definitely make a run of the will film.

Then what was your reaction when you heard the content of the film?

I was actually in cloud nine situation. I thought my dream come true. I was desperately trying to go for a change.

But don′t you think this might act as a boomerang?

Like?

Like you may be typecast as an action hero hence forth.

No, that won′t happen. I believed in becoming a complete actor. To become a complete actor I have to do all kinds of role I have proved as a lover boy chocolate hero. Now I have to prove that I am capable of doing action hero. If I get success, I will then shift to something else.

Do you think you will succeed in Challenge?

It my challenge & I am keeping finger crossed.

All the wishes for Challenge & Thank you.

Thank You Too.
