I consider myself as a loyal servant of this industry: Akshay Kumar

I consider myself as a loyal servant of this industry

Q. Akshay, in 8 x 10 Tasveer, you portrayed a character that can see through the past, it seems you don't believe in the adage that let past be bygone. A. Well, that way I have finished the whole film and I don't believe in whatever I have portrayed or done in the film. I accepted the film because of the simple fact that the script appealed to me a lot. I did not resort to any sort of study for the film or by believing in anything - I merely believed the script of the film.

Akshay, in 8 x 10 Tasveer you portray a character that can see through the past, it seems you don′t believe in the adage that let past be bygone.

Well, that way I have finished the whole film and I don′t believe in whatever I have portrayed or done in the film. I accepted the film because of the simple fact that the script appealed to me a lot. I did not resort to any sort of study for the film or by believing in anything - I merely believed the script of the film. It′s all plain and straight that I did not read nay book to do this film or any other research for that matter. It′s a script, which has been penned by Nagesh Kukunoor who has directed the film. The plot of the film talks about an individual who can get inside the past of a photograph merely by looking at it and then cay say that what happened at that time. He can get through the past of the people who are there in the photograph and this is possible for only two minutes. And till the time he is busy with this process he keeps bleeding. And then there is a whole reason behind all this.

So you actually mean to say that ‘script is king’.

Yes, absolutely Script is king. You are bang on target, script is king and audience is king.

So you don′t believe that fact that Akshay Kumar is king?

No, not at all.

Then what is Akshay Kumar?

Well I consider myself as a loyal servant of this industry and am here to do my work. At the same time I also consider myself as a very lucky person that I have been given an opportunity to be a part of this industry. Whenever I go to any studio for the shooting of the film, I see many people standing near the main gate and they all want to come inside and want to meet directors and producers and then I see that they all are pushed aside so that my car can come safely. Considering all this I consider myself as a very lucky person.

I had read somewhere that to portray your role in 8 x 10 Tasveer, you also read few novels of Guy de Maupassantand Edgar Allan Poe, how true is it?

It′s not true, I did not read any book to portray my role in the film. I don′t read books. I prefer watching films on DVD. I am pretty sure that some PR agency must have circulated this news to show to world that I am a reader of books and can earn some brownie points among the masses but the fact remains that I don′t read books. I prefer seeing films and I do sometime read my kids′ books.

Akshay, the name of this film was initially Tasveer, why was the name changed to 8 x 10 later on?

When the script of the film was being written, it was called as 8 x 10 only and then it became Tasveer and then again it was renamed as 8 x 10. When this whole debate on the name of the film was on lot many people had raised this doubt that how will people know that we are referring to the size of a photo frame by saying 8 x 10. 8 x 10 could be anything; it could even be the size of a coffin. Then we decided that we would convey this message through the poster that we are talking about the size of a photo frame. Finally the name of the film chosen was 8 x 10 Tasveer.

If I were talk about real life, which photo would you prefer to see and then go into its past?

It would be the photographs of those people whom I have lost in life and whom I miss the most. I would prefer to see their photograph.

Ok, what do you like - past or future?

Well I like my present.

It seems that you are leading a very hectic lifestyle these days, now you often commute on chopper for your film shoot.

It′s not at all a big deal. I had opted for chopper only for a day I had to come to Mumbai all of a sudden from my shoot location. I was supposed to dub for my film. I finished the dubbing for the film only few days back.

Last time we saw your association with Delhi Daredevils for the IPL tournament, do you have any plans this time?

Well as of now I have no plans as such. This time I am not there with the Delhi team, as I would be shooting abroad for my film. This was conveyed to them as far as six months back. They understood my point of view as all my dates were blocked long back only. Also the dates of the IPL were not finalized and they clashed with my film shoot period.

Kylie Minogue was recently in Mumbai to shoot for your film Blue; she had commented about you that Akshay Kumar is very hot, do you think so?

Well, yes, Kylie is a big personality and if she is saying such a think then I have to accept it. I hope that I am.

It was also said in newspapers that you skipped Filmfare event only to take Kylie on a Mumbai Darshan.

These are all rumours. I never went out to show her the city. I only wish I could have taken her out and shown the city. Kylie herself had a very tight schedule to follow. Everyday she used to be there on the sets at 7 in the morning and then leave the sets only by 8 or 9 pm. By the time she got over with her work, she used to get completely tired. On the contrary she often told me that she has not seen India at all, to which I advised her that the next time she comes to India it should be without any agenda and I am always there to make you see the city. As far as skipping Filmfare is concerned, I was busy shooting for my film.

This Holi, you were the only superstar who enjoyed the festival to the fullest, will you try make it bigger the next year?

No, I was only playing Holi with my son′s friends who had come to my home and apart from them there were neighbors. It was more of a small get together of near and dear ones. A person does not play Holi to show the clout he has or how many powerful attended his Holi or to make some power statement to people from the industry. Holi is all about enjoying and playing colors.

Do you regret the fact that CC2C failed at the box office?

Yes, I had worked hard a lot for the film. And one thing really proved right which I believed in since I was a child that it′s all written in your destiny. Well there are so many films on which we work hard a lot but they don′t run at the box office. There are also few films which I personally don′t like but they do good business at the box office. Sometimes even bad films click at the box office. Basically it′s all about destiny.

If I were to talk about CC2C only, one thing, which was clearly visible, was the fact that reviewers were behind your film to bring it down, how do you react to it?

Well I was sad but that the baggage which comes with being an actor and being a part of this industry. That′s fine and I will work hard the next time. The only thing that I learnt in the process was that I have to work hard and try and give something more different to the audience. 8 x 10 Tasveer is my next film and it′s got nothing to do with neither comedy nor action. It′s a small thriller film.

Lastly there was also news that the promos of your film were very similar to Ghajini, was it all deliberate?

Well, I don′t think so that there is any sort of similarity between the promos of Ghajini and 8 x 10 Tasveer. Chances are that the person who edited the promos of Ghajini might have edited the promos of my film too. The good thing being that we did not use clippings of Aamir Khan for our promo. But all said and done I don′t see any similarity or resemblance in the promos of both the film.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks.
