Q. Katrina, how does it feel to be the Barbie girl? A. When I saw the dress it was obviously the winner of the competition and the dress was meant for the limited edition of Barbie so actually I was very shocked in a way because I just thought that for a new girl to get it so right is no mean achievement. The dress just embodies everything what Barbie is all about. It has both bit of childish element coupled with playful element to it.

Katrina Kaif gets candid about being chosen as the Barbie girl, related controversy, her brand endorsements and upcoming projects in Bollywood

Katrina, how does it feel to be the Barbie girl?

When I saw the dress it was obviously the winner of the competition and the dress was meant for the limited edition of Barbie so actually I was very shocked in a way because I just thought that for a new girl to get it so right is no mean achievement. The dress just embodies everything what Barbie is all about. It has both bit of childish element coupled with playful element to it. It′s kind of sweet and it also has a bit of fashion quotient to it. I thought it was perfectly fit.

What is your reaction on the fact that Barbie guys have chosen you as their face?

I guess Barbie guys did their research and they kind of got feedback from the kids and all that. This was the final answer they came with, for me it′s an honour because it′s the first time Barbie is making a likeness doll - a doll that will look like an actress. It′s for the first time that they are doing this in India and I was really happy because I think for me my fans are the most important thing, and the most important fans for me are the kids coupled with the fact that they would be able to relate with me. It also makes you more accessible. It′s a big honour that they are doing it for the first time in India. It′s sweet and fun.

I am pretty sure that in your childhood you must have played with Barbie doll, please share your memories with us?

Well I come from a family, which comprises of six girls. We had so many toys and so many Barbie dolls all around in our home and we used to fight over them. I think there were a few broken arms on the issue of dolls. I think it′s a staple of childhood. I mean everyone knows what Barbie is. It just brings back nice memories from my childhood.

Katrina you are endorsing so many big brands these days don′t you think that you have reached an elevated position in Bollywood?

See I think I am very privileged. I have been very lucky and whatever I think, I have been fortunate enough to achieve so far is all by the grace of God and wonderful people who helped and supported me in this industry and as you said that I am really fortunate to be working with some wonderful brands right now. I endorse only those products, which I really believe in, the one, which I actually use. When I was young and when I was 14, I was using Pantene at that time and stuff like that. So that way I have been really fortunate to get brands with whom I could actually relate to and in terms of films I am really happy with the sort of work I am doing these days. I am really privileged to be working with directors like Rajkumar Santoshi and with a production house like Yash Raj Films through New York and also with award winning directors like Prakash Jha and last but not the least I have Priyadarshans film with Akshay Kumar called De Dana Dan which is a wonderful comedy with that fun element in it. I am excited about all my projects.

You are working with Prakash Jha in Rajniti; tell us a bit about that film?

If Prakash Jha were to hear me talking about Rajniti, he might just say oh God!! I think everyone has a different aspect to his or her personality. The wonderful thing about being an actress is that you get to embody many different roles. Rajniti is a very different kind of film and obviously it has shown a very different side of me but which is still a side, which is me as well.

Also a controversy too has cropped up with regard to being the Barbie girl; Aishwarya Rai Bachchan′s name too cropped up so many times.

Actually the CEO of Barbie Mattel India has already given a statement and I think he spoke very clearly on that matter beyond that from where this confusion arose, I actually have no idea. Perhaps Aishwarya is talking about Barbie from a different perspective. I honestly have no idea but as far as I have been concerned with Barbie Mattel India, they approached me with an offer, which coincided with being part of the celebration for 50 years of Barbie and the fact that they would be making one of a kind of collector′s item. They have a Barbie of Kate Winslet form Titanic, they also have a Barbie of Beyonce Knowles, so they are making just one collector′s edition from India which will then go into the archives of Barbie wherever they decide to display the dolls may be in America or somewhere in India. They have given a press statement and it′s a great honour for me. I was very flattered and beyond that all this controversy and the discussion which is going on is something I really don′t know about.

I am pretty sure that along with this achievement it must have also saddened you.

Yes I think so. I just wish that people could let it be perhaps there could be another association, which they might be doing. The CEO of Barbie Mattel very clearly stated that from their side there is nothing they know of. So I am not the right person to comment on that. I can only speak for myself and as I said earlier that it′s a big company and I am sure that there is room for everybody and it′s their prerogative as to whom they decide to be working with.

Katrina don′t you think so that when a person climbs the ladder of success lot many people become jealous of his or success too.

No I don′t like to believe that because people were actually discussing about the iconic stature of Barbie doll so honestly I have no answer to your question and I don′t know that from where the confusion has come from. But at the moment I do have an agreement with Barbie for this year regarding their association with me. They would be launching their store sometime in the month of September in India and so we still have few months to go before they make it. Again in September we will have a press meet to launch the dolls. So that should be fun.

Ok, who would you like your look-alike Barbie doll to be gifted first?

I think it′s going to be my sisters baby. She is of that age you know!

Finally, how did Salman react to this achievement of yours?

You know that′s a personal question. He has always supported me from the very beginning and has given me so much of support. Everything that goes well with me, he is the first person to be happy.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks.
