I think falling in love is more of a process

Q. Deepika, the very first promo of your film, Love Aaj Kal showed a sort of kissing scene, which is very striking; please tell us more about that scene? A. I knew this that you will start with the same question. I think it's one of the cutest scene in the film. I think there is so much purity in that scene and has turned out to be very natural. I just love that scene.

Deepika, the very first promo of your film, Love Aaj Kal showed a sort of kissing scene, which is very striking; please tell us more about that scene?

I knew this that you will start with the same question. I think it′s one of the cutest scene in the film. I think there is so much purity in that scene and has turned out to be very natural. I just love that scene.

Judging by your posture and the way you are sitting right now it seems that you are fully relaxed about the fate of the film.

Fate of the film - there is nothing like that. When we work hard while making a film, everyone prays that the film turns out to be a successful one. And about my posture, I would only say that I feel very comfortable sitting on this couch, it′s also kind of depicts the mood of the film.

Is it the same couch, which has been used in the film poster too?

Absolutely, it′s the same couch, which we have used in the film. The same couch has even found a place in the publicity still of the film. Hope this couch turns out to be lucky for us.

Ok, these days, what′s new at your end in terms of love?

I think everyone falls in love but everyone has a different experience to share. Every individual has a journey of his or her own. I think everyone has a different story to tell.

I hope after the release of Love Aaj Kal, love does not become a fad.

I think it′s always been a fad to fall in love. Not fad actually but it′s more of a natural process. People talk about their experiences, school kids, girl friends, boyfriends - all talk about it so in a way, it′s a part of life.

When was the first time you realized that you have fallen in love?

I think the relationship I am in right now, I think is true love. And precisely because of the same, we both admit to this and openly talk about our relationship.

The relationship which you admitted to with Ranbir, was your first ever relationship?

This is the first relationship I have admitted to and it′s something about which I am very sure. It′s a good thing that I have met a lot of people in my life and some relationships don′t work but it′s for the better only. We can learn a lot from any relationship and it′s happened for the first time that I am sure about a relationship. In fact we both are very sure about this.

Ok, when was the first time you realized that you have fallen in love with Ranbir?

I think it′s more of a process. As I said earlier and even in the film every individual has a different experience to share, you don′t realize for the longest time until you realize that you cannot do without that person.

Were there any specific moments?

All the time, but it′s difficult to tell. I think in a relationship there are moments when you realize that you really want to be with that person. I am sure that you too would have experienced the same thing as well and I think it′s a beautiful feeling of giving love. I think it′s the most beautiful feeling in the whole world.

The naagin tune from the film has become a rage, I am sure you would have really felt bad not doing the song.

Yes, I am not a part of that song. But when I listened to that song for the first time, I was very sure that it′s going to be a hit song. I think Saif has really worked hard and he is so good in the song. He has done a brilliant job in the song and the film as well.

Ok, what was love 25 years back and now?

I think 25 years back the desire and the want to be with someone was lot more. Love, during the old era and in the current era is the same only and it′s only times that have changed. I think girls and boys spend more time in the company of each other before, they actually and finally decide to settle down. This was not the case 25 years back. At that time they used to see that one girl and then say that she is the girl I want to marry and then they would pursue her for however long it would take for them. I think that′s the basic difference between the two eras. Few years back people would send postal mails but now it′s the era of emails and short messages. Twenty five years back they used to travel by train for long hours just to get a glimpse of that person they loved the most but now things have become much more easier with the availability of video conferencing and planes.

Ok, how about music of the era gone by and the present era.

In the past there used to be live orchestra for background and other things but in today′s day and age now very few people actually use musical instruments. It′s more of technology and less of real instruments. I still remember that when I was a kid my parents used to listen to lots of ABBA, Kishore Kumar and Mohd. Rafi and they have not changed; they still listen to their music.

Have you ever cried in love?

Lot many times and I think it′s a natural process of a relationship. When someone feels a lot of pain then such things keep happening. They all are part of being in a relationship. You cannot always expect it to be smooth and I think that sometimes these things help relationship nurture further.

Did Saif ever made you cry when you were shooting for Love Aaj Kal?

Never. Saif is a thorough gentleman. I think he was such a gentleman that he took too much of care of all the unit members. Imtiaz too is a very sensitive person and he always used to make sure that people present on the sets feel comfortable. In fact more than working on a film set it appeared as if we all are one big group of friends who are working together. It was so comfortable that we all would spend time together and has dinner and lunches. The whole unit used to go together.

Few days back you during the press conference of Love Aaj Kal, you made a very rational but a controversial statement by saying that love in films of today cannot be depicted with the help of two birds snuggling with each other. What exactly you meant by that?

Obviously, we have gone further and ahead in our thinking and also audiences are ready to accept depiction of love in its basic form. Our film is about today′s generation and contemporary relationship. I think how much are we going to shy away from this? It′s not like we are doing an action film and then suddenly we start kissing each other in the middle of an action sequence. It′s a romantic film and it′s about a couple that has been together for many years. They both are in love, so it′s a very natural process of the story.

Do you feel unhappy or sad when you listen to Ranbir being linked with any of his co-stars in newspapers?

Off course it does affect me but at the same time he provides me with a lot of security and is very intelligent. He is very sure about what he wants and I get my security from there.

Ok, tell us a bit about your role in the film?

I play the character of Meera in LAK. She is fresco painter and a restorer in the film. The film gave me many opportunities to go to many architectural sites in Delhi and I was actually cleaning stuff over there. There were so many paintbrushes, which my character uses in the film. I love painting so during spare time I used to paint a lot.

How much of painting did you manage to learn on the sets?

As far as fresco is concerned - not really but I am very fond of painting. I used to draw and paint a lot on the sets but apart from that Meera is shown as a very intelligent girl in the film when compared to Saif′s character. She is very grounded, sensible and practical. Saif′s character is slightly immature and his mind is all over the place and has a bit of confused state of mind.

The latest being that you would be promoting your film on the sets of Dus Ka Dum as Salman Khan′s guest.

Yes, and it would be the second time that I would be a part of the show. The concept of the show is very interesting and it′s all about common sense. Hope I am able to get some tips on painting from him as I have seen some of his work and they are very good.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks.
