Rajan Singh talks to Saif and Rani about their next film TPTM, and little bit of love and magic in their lives
[Part I: With SAIF ALI KHAN]
Tell us a bit about the role you play in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic?
The film deals with the story of four orphans. The kids are orphan because of the character I am playing in the film. I play the role of a businessman called Ranvir Talwar. Ranvir Talwar is a very serious in life carrying a practical approach towards things.
We have also heard that you are really mean to the kids in the film. Is it true?
Well, not really. On the contrary they are quite mean to me (smiles). The film has got both sad and funny moments in equal measure. TPTM is more in the school of films like Sound Of Music and Mary Poppins. I am very excited about the film and I am really looking forward to the release of the film.
Kunal Kohli, director of the film showed the film to you few days back, you liked it?
I just loved it. I liked the film a lot.
There were also rumours floating that on the sets you were told to stay away form kids so that you could be more mean to them while shooting.
There were no such things. Its all basically baseless rumours.
You have again teamed up with your favourite pair Rani Mukherji, considering the fact that your last film bombed at the box office, is it an effort form your side to hit the bulls eye with Ranis help?
Obviously every film we do, we only hope that it runs at the box office. Some films do well while others fail to create magic at the box office and thats the whole enigma of box office. Ultimately every thing boils down to audiences choice.
The title of the film was decided at the eleventh hour. What were other titles?
I dont remember actually but there were quite rubbish suggestions too. I really dont remember the titles but most of them were really cheesy ones.
What went wrong with Tashan?
I am not sure really as to what went wrong. But as I said earlier its something that audience decides and thats the great thing about acting in movies. We do films only because we like the idea. Sometimes those ideas dont turn out exactly as planned. They backfire sometime.
Was it also because that the audience did not like yours and Kareenas chemistry.
I think thats little unfair because Kareena and myself were not opposite each other. We have got only two scenes in the film; she is paired opposite Akshay Kumar in the film. But all said and done, I dont think thats the issue, which needs to be dissected. The only issue over here is that some films run while others dont run.
Can we expect fireworks in future between you and Kareena?
It all depends if one really wants to cast us in a film that has fireworks.
Ok, finally would you suggest one good reason for audience to watch TPTM?
Only because of the fact that its a good movie and good fun. I really feel that its good entertainment.
Part II: With RANI MUKHERJI
We hardly get to see you these days; you have even cut down your film assignment, any specific reason behind it?
The only reason is that I was busy doing Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and my next film is about to start soon. At this stage of my career now I feel that audiences have started expecting lots from me. They want to see me doing only good work, which include god films and good characters. People hardly get to see me these days only because I dont speak to journalists on a daily basis. I dont get to meet you people daily.
I hope you are not angry with us?
Not at all. There is nothing like that. My new house recently got constructed and that consumed al my time. I am very busy these days with my new house; all my time is going on it. Also my niece who was born two years back is now slightly grown up, so I prefer spending most of the time in her company. Rather than going outside and spending, she is my preferred company at home. May be because of this, people are not able to see much of me these days. I am normally seen on the sets of my film (smiles).
The title of the film was decided pretty late?
The title of TPTM was decided at the last moment, but also the title was something, which was apt for the film. There were lots of titles and we all were really confused that which one should be opted for. There were so many titles and all were gelling with the plot of the film. We were actually waiting to choose the best and finally everyone came to the conclusion that TPTM suits the best and thats why the title was chosen in the last moment. But the whole credit goes to Kunal Kohli, as it was he who was taking time to choose the title.
Tell us a bit about the plot of the film?
Once you see the promos of the film you will get to know more about it. The film is about three people. Saif plays a business tycoon in the film and in the film he plays someone who has not got love in life, then there is my character who plays an angel, now angel is someone who cant love obviously, angels are devoid of any emotion. And finally there are kids who are the third party in the film and they are looking out for love. How we three gel together and then what happens next is the plot of the film. And thats why the title of the film, the Magic is my point of view and Pyar comes from Saif and kids side.
In real life, I am pretty sure you will never try becoming an angel as they are devoid of love and emotions.
Its not that. Angels are always supposed to bring magic to your life. We as human being always pray to God that there is someone special fairy or angel who comes in our life. So I think angels spread lots of love and give lots of happiness. They create magic in our lives. We all as human being hope for similar magic in our lives, which changes everything.
Off late few of your films viz. Babul, Saawariya, Laaga Chunri Mein Daag have not run at the box office, do you think that your fans have stopped loving you?
I dont think so that there is any such thing that they have stopped loving me. My audiences love me a lot and sometimes they give me so much of love that it really brings tears to my eyes. I guess, its your love towards me that has lessened. But all said and done I dont think so that my fans have stopped loving me. The love of my fans has always been there. I always keep praying to God that with every film of mine I work hard and am able to reciprocate their love and affection.
Lastly when will your love culminate in real life?
Well right now we are talking about our film TPTM. In this film both my Pyaar and Magic has come to a culmination.
(And with this answer Rani Mukherji once again evaded any questions on her
