Q. Does the term Sarkar convey anything to you? A. Yes, for me people who are elder to us or those whom we give our respect are referred to as Sarkar and this is as per Indian tradition. Also people in whom the power to run the country is vested are also referred to as Sarkar. Q. Ok, you believe in what sort of government or Sarkar? A. I believe this that if any person has affected my life in some way or the other or has really left a lasting impression on me then I consider him or her as Sarkar. The eldest member of the family is also called as Sarkar.
On eve of Sarkar Raj release, Rajan Singh talks to Bachchan Sr. and Bachchan Jr. on the sequel to hit Sarkar (2005), working with Ramgopal Verma, family bonding on sets and their take on Sarkar...in their lives
With Amitabh Bachchan
Does the term Sarkar conveys anything to you?
Yes, for me people who are elder to us or those whom we give our respect are referred to as Sarkar and this is as per Indian tradition. Also people in whom the power to run the country is vested are also referred to as Sarkar.
Ok, you believe in what sort of government or Sarkar?
I believe this that if any person has affected my life in some way or the other or has really left a lasting impression on me then I consider him or her as Sarkar. The eldest member of the family is also called as Sarkar. Our film Sarkar Raj basically talks about a powerful man who is the father figure of a family, the situations he deals with and what happens around him forms the plot of the story. On many occasion when myself and RGV had conversation as to how to take the plot further then I informed him that in any influential family be it politics or business their inside affair is always interesting to hear about. And this excited RGV a lot.
Who is your Sarkar?
Sarkar for me are my parents - my father and mother. They are the one who brought me up and brought me to some position.
Ok, tell us about the atmosphere on the sets. The film features three members from Bachchan family.
It was very homely as we all were staying together only while shooting the film. After we were done with our shoot we were like one family.
As far as Abhisheks performance is considered, dont you think he has delivered with only few people in the industry?
Well thats a wrong notion about him. Abhishek has just started his career in the industry and still has a long way to go. Well to be very honest every actor encounters such allegation in the initial days of his or her career. I too had faced something similar when I started my career. All I know is that Abhishek should be given some more time to evolve as an actor and then only he can be judged whether he can act under other directors or not.
After RGV Ki Aag was declared a flop dont you think its a huge responsibility on your shoulders?
No, this is not the case. Well everyone comes across a situation in life where despite putting in best of efforts the results are not up to the mark. And the same thing happened with (Ram Gopal Varma Ki) Aag also. You cant predict the future of a film; sometimes they run while sometimes people do not accept them. RGV and myself have learnt from that experience.
You have become very vocal though your blog?
For me blog is one medium where I am able to express my views and am able to bring out to the forefront what I think, with all my honesty. Blog has presented me with the same opportunity. There are many occasions when my respondents criticize me on my blog but the medium is such that everyone is welcome on it. If I feel that someone is at fault I will try correct him and he too can do the same to me. As far as being vocal is concerned, I dont think so, chances are that I might have followed the same style in past but I guess the media might have presented my views in a different fashion.
You also said on your blog that Shah Rukh Khans show is more like Paanchvi Fail.
You have wrongly credited it to me. I had never said such a thing on my blog. It was only during a meeting at my home when few people from the TV industry had come to discuss a show with me. And during that meeting while I was shown statistics of various game shows, one of those mentioned that SRKs show is more like Paanchvi Fail. But, later on everyone twisted things in such a manner as if it was me who had said this. And just to prevent such baseless rumours I have started my blog. If anyone commits a mistake or writes anything wrong, its my duty to rectify it. No one can take all the liberty to say or do anything.
You have of late posted first look images of your forthcoming films; do you do it with the consent of producers?
Every picture, which is posted on the blog, is done only after I take permission from my producers.
Has Raj Thakrey expressed any desire to see the film?
This is a wrong thinking on your part that he has expressed any such desire to see the film. Last time it was RGV who himself had invited him to see the film. This time I dont know what plans RGV has.
Ok, if he were to express his desire to see the film, will he be shown the film then?
Why not, surely.

Which actor should we watch for in this film - your dad, you or your wife?
I think its actually RGV who should be looked forward to by the audience.
Tell us a bit about your character in the film?
Before I answer your question let me tell you that I was really happy that got another opportunity to work again with dad and RGV. The Nagre family and the Bachchan family reunited once again. Shooting for the film was pure fun as it was more of a family affair and I play Shankar Nagre in the film.
You shot for the first time with Aishwarya post marriage; did you encounter any apprehensions shooting for this film?
There were no apprehensions. Aishwarya and I have acted in many films in the past too. We only had to go and perform our duties on the sets, which was acting. But apart from that the whole family was there on the sets, we chatted and ate together on the sets. Once action was announced by RGV, she used to become Anita Rajan and me Shankar Nagre.
You have this very intense look in the film.
Yes, the role is supposed to be intense and very calculating. Its a normal film, which has typical Indian film formula. The film has many close ups and talks about strong people and some really difficult decisions they are supposed to take in the film.
OK, RGV has said this that you are a better actor compared to dad. Does it still hold true?
Not at all, RGV is 100 per cent incorrect when he mentions that I am a better actor than dad, its just not possible. Dad is the best, there just cannot be any competition between two of us. Just have a look at the repertoire of films he has. Its all fabulous.
There is also news that the climax of the film has been leaked out. Are you nervous?
Why should I be nervous, there is nothing of such sort. I have spoken to all the distributors and they all are pretty excited about the film. I dont know who started all these baseless and false rumours. They hold no meaning; all I can guarantee is that the climax is pretty interesting and will keep you glued to your seat.
Do you keep a tab on your dads blog; also off late they have also started many controversies.
Yeah, I go through them on a regular basis and as far as controversies are concerned, its not dad who does it but its the media who does it. He keeps giving his viewpoints and then you give your own verdict. I personally feel that if someone has a particular point of view then he or she should be respected for it.
Because of Raj Thakrey look-alike character dont you feel it might create some controversies?
The fact been that the film was shot over an year ago should answer this question that mean it was shot any of these untoward incidents happened. The whole shooting part of the film was done in August last year. The film has not been inspired from any political figure or political incident. The film just cannot be politicized only because its not a political film.
How do you respond to criticism?
Criticisms are always welcome. The media have guided me over the years and have told me what to do so that I am able to perform better. I have some friends in the media fraternity and I keep taking their suggestions. I am always in touch with them for their guidance and help.
Ok, finally how do you take the competition in the form of new comers who have joined the industry in last few years?
To be very honest I dont believe in competitions. They ought to be healthy and they help you perform better. Out of people who have recently joined the film industry Ranbir Kapoor is doing an excellent job, Sonam is equally good and currently I am shooting a film with her in the form of Dilli 6. Our industry is having the best time right now. People are getting options in the form of more and more stars.
