Recently, I have watched another RGV horror film, and it seems now in Bollywood, horror means shrill background music, weird camera angles, flying chairs, human limbs and on and on and on.
I do not understand in first place why 1920 should be placed in horror film genre. I do not know either where it should be placed. May be 'mixed'
Too many irrelevant themes, like soldiers, mutineers, rebels supernatural secularism and ofcourse Bichhuaa lead the film actually to nowhere. Characters like a priest, a doctor (recall Phoonk) and the spying caretaker (who knows it all) were too predictable. The unpredictable one was the Bichhua, the need of which I fail to understand in the context of the movie.
No point in discussing the story here as this is a ‘horror film’ and I shouldn’t kill the suspense (as if there were any !!)
Otherway round, the movie could have been an attempt to tell a story of an individual’s experience (Arjun) with life in terms of losing and regaining his faith on his ‘GOD’. However, you really don’t need ghosts and a bichhua (pun intended) in doing so. Such a theme in itself is serious enough for a full length movie.
One religion succeeding in defeating the evil over other is also an issue which was dealth with immaturity.
If you go to a multiplex and find tickets of all shows are sold out except 1920 (and you don’t have a better choice to spend the money), then watch it !!
