The comeback girl

Q. You had two successful runs at the box (Tujhe Meri Kasam and Masti) but you suddenly disappeared? A. Well, I didn't disappear. I was busy with films down South. In fact in my first year itself, I started shooting for 3 of my films simultaneously. All 3 of them were in 3 different languages- Boys (Tamil), Satyam (Telugu) and of course Tujhe Meri Kasam (Hindi). So you can say I debuted in 2003 in three different languages (smiles). Subsequently, my next couple of years was already booked with films in Telugu and Tamil.

The sweet and chirpy Genelia DSouza, makes a comeback in Bollywood, after establishing herself as one of the top actresses in the South. Sonil Dedhia chats with her, who has but two promising releases round the corner.

Well I didnt disappear. I was busy with films down South. In fact in my first year itself, I started shooting for 3 of my films simultaneously. Do you find any difference in working in Bollywood and working down south?

Mere Baap Pehle Aap

Mere Baap Pehle Aap

Its the same thing as you have the same camera, you get scripts beforehand. I cant really compare because I havent done much Hindi films but I have done many South Indian movies. So it will be unfair to compare. Secondly, technically South films are very strong and Hindi films are also evolving. Its a blessing to be a part of Indian cinema because where do you get so many varieties. It feels great I am part of Indian cinema.

You have two big films in your bag right now how does it feel?

It feels nice. To add to the excitement is that both the films are from big banner. But on the other hand the expectations of my fans will go up.

So what roles are you portraying in your films?

In Mere Baap Pehle Aap I play Akshayes love interest and the role is quite interesting as I essay the role of girl who is vivacious, extremist and frank. Actually Akshaye is searching for a bride for his father. It is a family comedy entertainer. I cannot talk much about Jaane Tu… as Aamir has told us to keep it under wraps.

So how was the feeling of working with Aamir Khan and Imran Khan?

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Its a pleasure working with Aamir. Its like a dream come true. He is a genius. Even his nephew Imran has got his acting genes! They have completely different personalities though. Its Imrans first film but he is so confident, well versed since he comes from a film family and is comfortable in front of the camera unlike other newcomers.

You have also signed for a film directed by Anees Bazmee which stars Harman Baweja in the lead role. Incidentally this will be the third time that you are working on the same script, what is the film all about?

Its a romantic comedy. Its quite a coincidence as I starred in the original Telugu version Bommarillu. The film was a big success and even fetched me a Filmfare award for Best Actress. The same film was also remade in Tamil called Santosh Subramaniam. Anees Sir approached me and I couldnt refuse him. I am probably one of the few actresses who have starred in the remake of the same film in 3 different languages.

Are you dating Ritesh Deshmukh?

No I am not seeing anyone. I am single and very happy and right now I want to concentrate on my work. Ritesh is a very good friend. I dont why the media is always behind us.
