Ranbir, how difficult was it for you to woo Jenny or Katrina in the film, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani? The fact being that you don′t fit the idea of her perfect man.

Well, there are lots of women in this world who have set notions about how they are perfect, husband should be perfect, boyfriend should be perfect so on and so forth. And Jenny also in this film has certain set notions but they are not really too farfetched that he has to be a six foot person or a big built man, with strong features and good looking. They are basic things that human beings should be like this and Prem does not fit into any of these parameters. He is just the opposite of a normal human being. It′s even hard for him to even get a job, spent time at home or be good to his parents. Rather than being a good person he is more a friendlier person. It′s that thing which he strives to achieve in the film and he becomes successful to an extent because APKGK is a happy ending film, there is no sad ending to this film.

Tell us a bit about your character in the film?

If I were to borrow words from the APKGK comic book, then Prem could be defined as a good hearted, good natured, good for nothing, mothers pride, father′s despair and president of the happy club person.

What was so exciting about this film, which actually made you go everywhere to promote a film?

Well, promotion of a film has become a big responsibility now, not only for producers but also for actors. You make a film and you work so hard for it but how do you reach out to your audience? There is so much of money being spent on a movie these days. There is such a wide audience in India who loves going to movies. Also there is choice for them as so many movies release every week and so many others are playing alongside the new ones, so how do you make them aware that which is that movie that they really want to see. Also there is this fact that you have to believe in your film and you have to really enjoy doing it. When you are speaking about your film then you have to be proud that you are associated with a film like this and thats what we exactly do. While a film is releasing then there is this whole mixture of emotions - you are nervous, you are anxious, you are excited - all such feelings come across every actor but promoting a film is not an easy task. You are going to different cities, meeting different people - it′s amazing that the kind of responses you get actually raises your confidence. But come Friday, when they are sitting inside the hall, it′s a different feeling. They actually tell you if a film is working or not.

How easy or difficult was it for you to be a part of comedy film of a director whose last comedy film was Andaz Apna Apna, which is now considered a cult film?

To be part of a Rajkumar Santoshi film is a big deal for any actor. People keep referring to Andaz Apna Apna because that was Rajkumar Santoshis last comedy film but APKGK is actually a romantic film, which has been done in a comic and a fun way. It′s an entertaining and a family film but it has no references to Andaz Apna Apna as such. Yes, it′s from the maker of Andaz Apna Apna, who understands comedy so deeply - the timing, writing and the tone of comedy so well. It had some great actors at that time but this is my first comedy film though Katrina has done few comedy films in past which had done very well at the box office. It′s exciting for me because I don′t know if I have succeeded or not and that′s because while doing a comedy scene on a set everyone around you is laughing but with the audience it could just be a different feeling. They might not laugh at a joke which you consider an amazing joke; it might just fall flat your face. But this comes with experience as to how an audience is reacting and only then you can say if you are succeeding in a comic role or not.

What the best thing you have heard about the promos or the song, did anyone do any crazy act in front of you during your promotion spree?

It′s not that it′s crazy but people are aware of the film, they are aware of the songs and the dialogues. There are so many times that while promoting a film, people actually know that whats going on. Sometimes people are just attracted towards the star cast, while sometimes they are attracted towards the songs of a film. With APKGK what I think has really caught on among the masses is actually the appeal of the film. It′s the characters, it′s the dialogue, it′s the tone of the dialogue and the punches. But all said and done comedy is really tricky, you can really be loud in a comedy film and make a complete fool of yourself with hamming and other things which you are not convinced about but the good part that Mr. Rajkumar Santoshi has done with the film is that he has not only made up pep up the comic factor, the comedy is actually tragic in the film. He has this quality of making a comedy film where it′s sad all around but you are laughing and that′s what makes this film special and unique.

Did you ever feel that Katrina Kaif these days has become lucky mascot for films?

I don′t think so that any actor can be called as lucky mascot. The fact that Katrinas films have been successful at the box office is only because of her hard work. People of the country get connected to her as a person and as a performer so I don′t like this term lucky mascot. It completely undoes whatever you have achieved in life so far.

Has life changed post Wake Up Sid and is it looking up with APKGK?

Well, my life has been pretty much the same. I am still a working actor and am working on a film every day. Wake Up Sid was very different and so is APKGK, they are of different genre films with different directors. I look forward to every film and hope this film too does great at the box office.

One reason as to why people should step into theatres to watch this film?

One reason could be Rajkumar Santoshi, he is coming up with a comedy after 15 years and I think that′s the first and foremost reason. The second reason could be the comedy scenes, which have turned out to be amazing. It′s a fun film, when the audience comes and sees this film then they will have a blast. Every age group can connect with this film and will like to be friendly with the characters of the film and they will try becoming like these characters. The buzz about the film is good and people seem to be excited about the film which actually makes us doubly nervous so because now we have rise up to the expectation of the audiences. We are confident that we have made a good film and have poured in our heart and we have worked really hard on this film.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks.
