The legendary Bollywood actor Shammi Kapoor, remembered best for his "yahoo" song among many of his superhit songs that mesmerized us over the decades, left us on Sunday, 14th August 2011. One of the most flamboyant actor of his time, Shammi Kapoor is remembered the way he revitalized romance in a time that was witnessing a depressing era of lock outs, strikes, political crisis and much more. In Shammi, people found a dream world that was far off from the reality; intoxicated with the magical tunes of OP Nayyar, SD Burman, and Shankar Jaikishan. Shammi responded very well to the music emerging from these telented composers; he almost personalized its flow, beat, rhythm and temper. He turned the act of lip synching songs into a cult of its own. And with Mohd Rafi singing for him, came many many superhit Hindi songs, many of which went on to become the evergreen Bollywood songs made ever. Rafi + Shammi Kapoor + Romance = Hundreds of superhit songs, and each song became a masterpiece on its own charm; be it the crazyness that Shammi brought on screen, or Rafi's magical voice that touched millions of hearts. Penned by Hasrat Jaipuri, 'Ehsan Hoga tera' by Mohd Rafi is beautiful song with an extremely rich lyrics. Filmed on Shammi Kapoor & Shaira Banoo, the song captures the intense emotion expressed silently through their eyes. Take note of the extreme modulation in the song, where Rafi sings "Rone kahoge rolenge aab", the sad tone comes sharply down from a highly pitched "tumne mujhko hasna sikhaya". One of the best romantic sad song of Shammi - Rafi ever. Junglee is also Shammi Kapoor’s first film in color.

In the song Shammi Kapoor is seen in his natural self, flirting with a young & gorgeous Sharmila Tagore on the famous Dall Lake of Kashmir. Shammi made a request to Rafi that the line "taarif karun kya uski.." be repeated more than half a dozen times at the end. There was a concern that repeating a line for so many times would spoil the end. Rafi however went on to repeat the line for as many times as Shammi wanted and sung each line differently than the previous one.

This one is not one of those Shammi kapoor's superhit songs with the beautiful heroines around, but far from it. this is perhaps the only sport song that Shammi has had in his entire film career. 'Hip Hip hurray' - as the title suggests - is set at the backdrop of a jubiliant hockey team celebrating their victory. It also shows the tremendous popularity of Hockey in those days. It's very rhythmic and fast paced, as usual sung to perfection by Rafi for Shammi ji.

One of the reason that this song features in our list of top Shammi kapoor hits is that it's one of those rare Shammi song that's not sung by Mohd Rafi. Subir Sen is the singer. In the song a very young Dharmendra can be seen, while Shammi Kapoor tries to woo Madhubala on the road. Shammi even rides a donkey to chase her. it's very obvious that the voice doesn't suit Shammi a bit, and spoils all the fun.
