The life and soul of 3 Idiots is of course Aamir Khan. His perfection lies in the fact that he makes everything look so easy and spontaneous. And at all the right moments, he brings the film alive with his sheer brilliance. Aamir Khan clearly stealing the show in the role of the sharp, optimistic, livewire Rancho. Watch him to believe it. I mean, you do not see any persona of the Aamir of old in any angle, in any shot, in any dialogue delivery. A complete, brand new Young Aamir. You look for flaws but find none. From his look to his walk to his manner of speech, Aamir breathes life into Rancho and that's what stays with us. If you thought Aamir Khan couldn't get any better than he is, think again. Aamir is the heart and soul of 3 Idiots and he proves why he's simply a class apart. He is so effortlessly natural in his act that you take a moment to analyze and appreciate this as one of his career-best performances. Truly, a mark of a genius!
Madhavan delivers his most retrained act ever. He takes the film back and forth with his narrative and is splendid even with comedy. Madhavan could have taken his role more seriously and tried to fit in as a college student. He has an easy screen presence and perfectly complements his costars for amazing companion chemistry.
Sharman Joshi is brilliant, especially in his breakdown scenes. He is as much competent showing brilliance in both funny and emotional moments. He has really a great future.
Kareena Kapoor gives her finest portrayal in recent times as Pia. She may have less screen-time but this is amongst one of her most appealing acts. And that is beyond her gorgeous looks. Here's a performance that proves why she's indeed the best we have. Kareena, though does not have much of a role makes an impact while Mona Singh who makes her big screen debut does not get enough scope to show her talent.
Boman Irani is sincere as expected, with his lisp act getting all the right nuances. A clever make-up and twist of the tongue is what sets him apart from his other roles, which have become monotonous. Despite adding a lisp to his character, he doesn’t make a caricature out of it, which is the usual tendency. He as the college head for once is not loud and over-the-top. He is exceptionally good as the principal. His mannerisms so distinctively remind you of the professors from your college days.
The one who really steals the show with Aamir is Omi, the overzealous student who mugs his way to the top. Omi as the nerdy NRI symbolizes the teacher’s pet you encounter in every classroom. This character is simply hilarious. In fact, it's a serious focus on how most students actually are today.
Watch it till you haven’t reached it 100th time, I have reached it still 44th time!
