Golmaal – Fun Unlimited, Golmaal Returns, All The Best, Golmaal 2, Singham – all blockbusters. So, for obvious reasons, the expectations from Rohit Shetty’s next are also high. But the million dollar question is: will Rohit be able to work his charm on this Ajay Devgn - Abhishek Bachchan starrer? It's time that we do a detailed review of what may work and what not!
STORY: Abbas Ali (Abhishek Bachchan) migrates to Ranakpur village with his sister Sania (Asin). To escape a risky situation, Abbas' friend comes out with a fake name – Abhishek Bachchan for him, i.e. Abbas. To cover this lie, Abbas starts padding up with a bigger lie telling people that he also has a twin brother with no moustache. Thus, a single person acts as two different entities – Abbas and Abhishek.
TRAILER: The trailer volubly says that BOL BACHCHAN has all the necessary ingredients that go into the making of a successful Rohit Shetty flick – comedy, speeding cars, flying cars, action, loud background music picked up from a song, the central character/s in mayhem and of course, Ajay Devgn. The highlight of the promo is the translations coming from Prithviraj (Devgn). If “chhaati aur bhi chaudi ho gai hai” is translated into “my chest has become blouse”, we can certainly expect some more funny translations like these in the film! However, we just wish the promo was better cut and included some more funny scenes than the action ones.
Next, let’s have a look at the other decisive factor of the film – its MUSIC ALBUM!
The film has only four songs. The title song is amazing and amusing – thanks to its lyrics, and also due to Devgn’s and Abhishek’s playback singing! Next song is “Chalaao Na Naino Se…” which is rustic, yet funny – once again thanks to its lyrics! Out of the total four songs, these two have the maximum potential to score high among the listeners. The next song “Nach Le…” is energetic with powerful beats, and the last song “Jab Se Dekhi Hai” is a soft, romantic number that is slightly reminiscent of the late 1990s!
The first two songs are majorly being used for promotions, and evidently, they are doing a good job!
BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS: Rohit Shetty has certainly carved a niche for himself with a string of entertaining films. No wonder, Bol Bachchan is one of the highly awaited films of the year. The promos do not promise the laughter riots as seen in his earlier films. But with Rohit Shetty, you never know. He can make the audience fall off their seats laughing. Stylized action is his forte, and this film definitely has ample of it. The songs are also funny, and add to the amusement factor.
Ajay Devgn repeats his “satakli” statement, attempts to dance, fights the goons, and is back with his grim but funny avatar (typical to his films with Shetty). All these surely score brownie points! Abhishek Bachchan returns to his “dheela” avatar a la “Dostana”. Though not in a double role, it would be exciting to see Junior AB essaying two characters. The female leads – Asin and Prachi Desai – do have a decent Bollywood resume to vouch for them. Anyway, the film rides more on Ajay, Abhishek and of course, the captain of the ship – Rohit Shetty. With these three together holding the strings of the movie, Bol Bachchan can surely ride high – provided the content of the movie is up to the mark!
