Jism 2 and Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai are all set to release this weekend. We bring to you Trade Expert Komal Nahta to share his prediction about the fate of these films at the box-office. While one is an erotica, the other is a love story made for the whole family. So, to know which one of these has an upper hand, read on!
[JISM 2 preview] This week sees the release of Jism 2, sequel to Jism, released in 2003. While that one starred John Abraham and Bipasha Basu, this one has Sunny Leone with Arunodaya Singh and Randeep Hooda. The film has been in the news even before its shooting commenced. Mahesh Bhatt reportedly finalised Sunny Leone while she was a participant in the reality TV show, Bigg Boss. Even after the adult film went into production, it has always managed to remain in the news, probably because of Sunny’s past – she is a well-known international porn star. More recently, the graphic poster designs of the film came at the centre of a controversy when the authorities asked the BEST management in Bombay to remove the posters from its fleet of buses.
Anyway, all of this means that the not-so-big film can hope to take an initial much bigger than that warranted by its cast and budget. Adter all, the erotica which the film promises to serve, will have people queueing up outside the cinema halls. Besides, the music of the film is another plus point. And we all know, how hit music drives us to the theatres, don’t we?
Incidentally, it is for these very reasons that the producers sold the all-India distribution rights of the sex film to one distributor (Ponty Chaddha) at a fancy price. And Ponty Chaddha, in turn, has managed to further sell the distribution rights for the individual circuits to different distributors for unimaginably high prices. After all, there is not a single A-list actor in the cast.
[YEH JO MOHABBAT HAI preview] Another film scheduled to hit the screens this week is Ashim Samanta’s Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai. Son of the famous and super-hit filmmaker Shakti Samanta, Ashim has borrowed from the hit song Yeh jo mohabbat hai, yeh unka hai kaam from his late father’s blockbuster movie, Kati Patang. Ashim introduces his son, Aditya Samanta in the male lead in the film opposite Nazia Hussain who has earlier acted in Say Yes To Love. The film has not been promoted too well. The music is also not too popular. It will, therefore, have to depend upon word of mouth to really create an impact on the audience. As it is, the film has got very few shows in the multiplexes owing to lack of playing time. After all, there are so many Hindi and Hollywood films running in the multiplexes already.
[Box office Update: August 6, 2012]: Jism 2 was off to a flying start, thanks to brand Jism and the tremendous hype surrounding Sunny Leone
