Mithya - Youve seen the film. Isnt it? And you are wondering, what I could possibly have to say about this film when already so much has been said and heard before and after the film release. Well, I happen to hear some interesting bits about the film from the horses mouth and I think it must be shared, along with my views of courseJ And just in case you havent seen this film yet, reading this could make it slightly more interesting for you or just spoil it completely. Kidding. Wont reveal much, dont worry.

To begin with, just tell me what does Mithya mean? I did ponder on that for a while. Is it a lie? Not exactly. How is different from jhooth?

I am sure you can describe it better than I can. But, Ill give it a shot anyway. We could call it a lie that one believes in. Agree?

Yeh duniya ek moh maya hai. The director sets out to explore this usually pun intended statement. Amm ya, but there is more to it. Ill come back to this one. But before that, let me tell you a small story from the Puran that Director Rajat Kapoor narrated.

Narad Muni often asked Vishnu, Lord please tell me who am I? Vishnu ignored this question for a while, but one day Narad insisted that he wants to know. This time Vishnu told him that he will tell him all that he wants to know, but first he needs to fetch him some water from that pond. Narad happily went to the pond, but slipped and fell into it and thats when Lord Vishnu turned him into princess. She came out, went back to her kingdom, married a prince and gave birth to two children as well. They grew up and she showered all her love on these two kids. But one day a fire took her children from her.

She wept and thats when lord Vishnu turned her back into a Narad and asked him, What is it that you are weeping for? Something that was never yours, something that didnt even exist. So who are you? Narad got the point and so did Rajat Kapoor.

This story then became the germ of the big idea behind the film. What really defines you? Who are you? And what if you are not what you believe that you are. Interesting and how! After watching this films, I did think for a bit about this clichd and loosely used phrase Kya sach mein yeh duniya moh maya hai?!!?

Rajat had this script with him even before he directed Raghu Romeo, but no producer would then back a script such as this one. Some of them did agree, but they wanted him to change the ending. Just like any true mad and talented director, Rajat believed in his script and refused to change it for anything. He went around with this script to several actors, including Saif Ali Khan, but who would ever back this script 5 years back. I think no one. But better late than never, the film was made with Ranvir Shorey as the lead. Now for all those curious readers who havent seen the film but have just got interested in it, allow me to take you through the story briefly.

It is a about a struggling junior artist of the film or may be not. It is about how this man is forced to become someone that he is not to someone that he is not, but believes that he is.

You know what, I suggest just watch it. But if you do want to know something more about this film, Ill tell you things that you must look out for while watching this film.

Id be truly surprised if Ranvir Shorey doesnt get any awards for his performance in this film. He is simply outstanding. Trust me, I dont say that about most of the actors that I watch on screen these days. Also look out for the minimalism in this film. It is no doubt convincing, but nothing seems unwanted or unnecessary in this films.

Now what doesnt work in this film is the love track between Ranvir Shorey and Neha Dhupia. I would have loved to watch more of them together, more of them, in lighter situations when they are just bonding or situations that they are reacting to, together. Somehow the film keeps coming back to their love story, but how do I feel for them, if I havent seen the build up to their relationship to that extend. Do tell me if you disagree with me on this one. I surely feel more for the bond with Dons wife and his kids. Oops! Did I say too much? No I didnt.

At the end of the film, you might wonder if anything in this materialistic world belongs to you at all. What if all that or those who you believe in isnt yours? What if

Well, for now, Ill leave you with that thought.
