Rajan Singh chats with Priyanka Chopra on her different look and her adventure movie, Drona

Hi Priyanka, You look very hot in the promos.

Yes Goldie told me that he will make me look in my hottest avatar ever. When he signed me as Dronas bodyguard, I did not believe him but he was very clear that the character is a really hot bodyguard and she is not aware of it.

Your get-up has you wearing a bandana. Tell us more about your look in Drona?

Its actually a pagdi, to be more precise our version of pagdi. Its not really a bandana. We have tried to keep the styling very different. I always try doing something different with all my films. I want each role that I play in my films to be remembered as characters. When people see a picture from my film they should say that Oh! this image is from this film of Priyanka. I tried red hair in Love Story 2050 and here in Drona I have grown my hair really long. I wanted a very tough look for Drona and Goldie was very clear about that. Despite being a bodyguard, the character is feminine and Indian as well. The clothes, which were given to my character, carry lots of feminine touch to it. If you find leather in the dress then at the same time there is also lots of chiffon to it to give that touch of femininity to it. The koti I have used in the film has this embroidery so that people are able to relate with the Indian feel. This was a conscious decision.

You have also done full-fledged action for the first time in a film. How difficult was it to play the role of a bodyguard?

I had done a little bit of action in Don but here its a whole full-length movie. In Drona I have done lots of action. I play a bodyguard in the film and my responsibility or rather the duty of my life is to make sure that Drona is always protected and is always safe. And for the precise reason it had to look really authentic and look very real. I always try to give 100 per cent to any character I play. In Drona I play this special character, which is very, unique, its a girl who is the bodyguard of a man, and that really made me excited. I hope I am convincing enough. Its in Dronas legacy to be the protector of the universe and its his responsibility. On the very similar lines protecting my master is in my legacy as my father used to protect Dronas father. Its our duty to be what we are supposed to be.

We can also see your stunts in a commercial of yours.

I did it in my latest Sunsilk commercial as well. I knew that Drona was coming out and Sunsilk was very keen on doing something similar, which was of a little different form. The Sunsilk guys wanted to give it a little bit of personality and I was very excited when Sunsilk came up to me with the concept and to me it seemed the ideal time to do it.

Please enlighten us if Drona is a superhero or not.

Drona is not a superhero. Its his duty to be a saviour; he is the saviour of the universe. I wont say that he is a superhero who flies in air or does anything like that. He has a good soul which is contrasted by the evil character which Kay Kay plays in the film. This film is basically the story of good versus evil. And, yes I kind of like strong guys.

Goldie and Abhishek fulfilled their childhood fantasy by making this film, did you also any harbour fantasy, which got fulfilled through this film?

Well Goldie and Abhishek as kids wanted to make a film with swords and that too, a really big film. I am happy that their dream has turned out to be true and I am also a part of it. It was not really a fantasy but its too good to be mentioned to you. It was this sequence, which we did atop a train. The train was running at a speed of almost 60 miles an hour and there on top of the bogey I was fighting with six to seven men around me with swords. The train was really moving fast and I had to keep my balance. I was fighting with men surrounding me and then had to do somersault to go from one bogey to the other. I really enjoyed it. I think that was little bit of fantasy from my side.

How different is Drona from your other films?

This was something different as we were making a different film. I hate saying this but it is a different film. When LS 2050 was on the verge of release, it was a different film and I had said this. Drona itself is a very different movie and so is Dostana as it has a very different theme. And so is Fashion. We wanted to do something different with this film and thats why we chose something Indian. And as Goldie had said, he wanted to keep the inherent roots of Drona very Indian and thats why we opted for Gatka, which is Sikh, form of martial arts. From the Tula village lots of people came on to our set to teach this art to me.

You have lost oodles of weight, any reasons behind loosing so much of weight?

I have lost weight because I am overworked and underpaid. Thats why. I guess thats the best way to look through it.

Tell us a bit about the music of the film, the songs, which are being aired right now, show only you.

The music of this film is very different and now I am tired of saying this over and over again. We have tried for this film that the music is in sync with the central theme of the film. It was a tough job composing music for this film but Dhruv has done a great job. The title track of this film is my favourite piece. Oop Oop Cha is another song, which sounds very different. Bandagi is another romantic song, which has been done beautifully. There are some great songs in the film and I am really excited about the songs.

Lastly, whats the reason behind wearing bikini in Dostana?

I think the trailor of Dostana is out and I think its not a bikini but a swimsuit. I have toned my body. I love food being a Punjabi and I think giving up food is not a healthy way of losing weight. I think if you work out and train your body then thats the best way of getting into shape. I had put on almost 5 kgs of weight when I started working on Fashion because I wanted my character to be a little bit fuller and then during the duration of the film when i become a model I wanted to lose that weight. The same look was carried forward in Dostana too.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks.
