Do I look like a Bhai?

Do I look like a Bhai?

Q. Sanjay, how much EMI have you extracted from people? A. I will surely extract them once EMI hits theatres. If the public were to like the film what else do I need to extract? Q. Talking about your co-stars, you extracted how much money from your co-stars when the shooting for the film was on? A. I have not extracted any money from them, its they who have extracted money from me.

Sanjay Dutt plays a Bhai, yet again, this time in EMI. Rajan Singh met him at the audio release of the film. Excerpts on his coversation with the Deadly Dutt:

Sanjay, how much EMI have you extracted from people?

I will surely extract them once EMI hits theatres. If the public were to like the film what else do I need to extract?

Talking about your co-stars, you extracted how much money from your co-stars when the shooting for the film was on?

I have not extracted any money from them, its they who have extracted money from me.

What were your initial reactions when you heard the script of EMI for the first time?

Yes, when I heard the script for the first time, it really appealed to me. Sunil too had recommended the script saying that its a fabulous script. And when I finally heard it, it really excited me. For me it was a different script altogether. Its a very sweet film and I was really impressed with Saurabh who had directed the film. He has really worked hard for the film and it shows.

Have you ever paid any EMI when you were young?

Well it used to be our parents who used to pay off all the EMIs. During our college days we used to take 100 or 200 Rupees from our parents for our daily expenses and when we needed some more money we used to borrow it from our friends and then return back them the same amount later. Now its the age of credit cards.

Sanju, your get up in the film looks pretty interesting with those pathani suits. Tell us more.

Have you not seen Vaastav? I have got less gold this time compared to that I wore in Vaastav. I think its just a character. Sattar (the character Sanjay Dutt plays in EMI) is more flamboyant, he is flashier, and he is such kind of a character and thats why he sports gold and a unique beard. Its more so to add or to give that bhai touch to the character. It gives the impression that its a very strong character and at the same time he operates from the heart. He uses his brains for recovery rather than use his brawns. The younger generation of today flashes his or her credit cards everywhere and I think its a big responsibility but nobody understands. Banks use several methods to recover their money. Sattar bhai actually tries to find out the root cause, which compels them not to pay the money back to banks, he then tries to rectify those faults in his own lovable way.

Ok, have you ever encountered anyone like Sattar Bhai in real life?

No, I have never encountered any one like Sattar Bhai. I have met goons but never as handsome like Sattar Bhai (laughs).

Ok, if you were to borrow money from any Bollywood star who would that be?

I think I will borrow money from Akshay Kumar and the only reason is that he is doing pretty well at the box office these days. I recently read that he is getting Rs. 71 crores for a film. I can surely ask for a loan of Rs. 10 crores from him.

But dont you feel so that lot many times banks too, resort to scrupulous means to recover their money?

Yes, I have heard about it and have seen it on TV too. Its a reality that banks do resort to such ways but Sattar bhai is not like this. We have touched upon so many things in the film. You get to read so much about these things in newspapers and naturally we wanted to touch these topics. But you have to see the film for the way it has been handled and its a real film.

If a film were to have a Bhai sort character in it, why is it Sanjay Dutt always comes in directors mind?

I dont know? Do I look like a Bhai? For the precise reason I have transformed myself from Vastav wala Bhai to Munna Bhai. And from Munna Bhai now its Sattar Bhai because he is person with a good heart. If there were people like Munna Bhai there would only be peace everywhere .The message of Gandhigiri would be spread everywhere. I would any day prefer Munna Bhai.

What do you enjoy doing most - comedy or action?

I enjoy doing comedy but dont be under the false assumption that doing comedy is an easy task. Its a very difficult task and it requires perfect timing and interaction among the actors. I really enjoy doing comedy.

Does the film convey any message?

Yes, there is surely a message in the film. But if the recovery agent is like Sattar Bhai then only there is fun and message. Sunil Shetty also told me this that if he were some influential figure in the government then he would have surely recommended Sattar Bhai for some position in the finance ministry. Its only Sattar Bhai who has all the solution.

You have done comedy with Salman Khan and Arshad Warsi - whom do you prefer most?

With Salman I have done only one film and that was Chal Mere Bhai. I really enjoyed working with Salman for that film. He is like a younger brother to me. But the chemistry I had with Arshad in Munna Bhai was something that was simply unbelievable. I still miss Arshad being around. I was shooting in Thailand recently and all of a sudden I told myself that I am missing Circuit (Arshads name in the Munnaibhai films), where is he? I immediately called him up saying that I am missing him its been months since I met him. He also said that he was equally missing me.

You have also sung a song in the film. Tell us more.

If I were to turn into a flop actor, I can any day resort to singing career (smiles).

Ok, Sunil Shetty has gone on record saying that the industry has two brilliant actors - Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. Comment.

Amit-ji is a great actor and if Sunil has said something of this sort then its a great compliment for me. We all have seen him working on the sets and it really makes you teach lot many things from him.

There was also news floating in market that you insisted on shooting few scenes again for the film.

I was more than satisfied. I only discussed few scenes with Sunil for the betterment of the film. We personally felt that a scene, which includes the interaction of Sattar Bhai with the bank manager in the film, will make a great viewing. And finally when we shot it the emotion which has come out in the scene will surely leave a strong impact on you.

Thanks a ton.

Thanks
