'PK' has the Potential to Cross Rs. 300 Crores in the Domestic Box Office

Aamir Khan is back in Rajkumar Hirani's 'PK'. Will he manage to meet sky-high audience expectations and raise the bar once again, catapulting the movie to box office heights, reaching beyond Rs. 300 crores?

It's Christmas time again and Hindi cine-goers will be treated with an Aamir Khan extravaganza. Often termed as Mr Perfectionist, Aamir Khan's films always raise the bar as the audience expect something unusual from him. The cherry on the plum cake is that he has arrived this year with Raj Kumar Hirani who is known for making blockbuster entertainers with some social message that appeals to both class & mass (and critics, of-course). Hirani-Aamir combo's last outing 3 Idiots released in Dec 2009 was a trendsetter as they created the 200cr* club in Indian market with the film. With a rough 1300 screens it achieved the gigantic feat thus reflecting on the fact that how much the audience had actually loved the Bromantic comedy. The film is also the highest grossing film worldwide & has over 1 lakh user votes in IMDB (the only Indian cinema to have done that.)

Now the jodi is back under the same banner of Vidhu Vinod Chopra films but this time the stake is higher. With all the leading Khans reaching the 200cr* mark it isn't that sought after thing anymore. Aamir's last film Dhoom 3 itself reached to a mammoth total of 280cr* & now the expectations are higher from him.

Will the fantasy comic drama PK able to reach the unattainable 300cr mark?

Will Aamir Khan be the torchbearer for 300cr?

Will PK break the highest day record of Happy New Year?

Will it beat Salman's Kick & emerge as the highest grossing film of 2014?

Only time can tell this and we lesser mortals can predict the trend.

Now what's going in favour of PK :-

1. Star factor of Aamir Khan

2. Reliability quotient of Raju Hirani

3. Christmas holiday

4. No big competition in coming 3 weeks

5. The film releasing in 5200 screens in India (& 800 overseas)

Last big hit in the domestic was SRK starrer Happy New Year which was released on Diwali with roughly 5000 screens & earned 45cr* in day 1 (highest ever).

PK is releasing in a non-holiday Friday so the day 1 record would be difficult to break but overall we are predicting the film to cross the 300cr* & create landmark in Indian cinema..

Assuming PK gets an acceptance from audience just like 3 Idiots , the following would be the day-wise estimated trend (all round-off, net figures in crores) & the elevator to reach 300cr :-

Aamir started both the Rs. 100cr* & Rs. 200cr* club with Ghajini & 3 Idiots respectively. And we are predicting him to open the Rs. 300cr* gate on day 17th from the release of PK. Watch this space for more.
