    Thrill X Mystery

Thrillers and Mystery have been an interesting genre for films all over the world. If you add some supernatural powers in this genre it makes it more interesting. But along with this you need to justify the events happening on the big screen. If you succeed in that then you have a winner or else a great opportunity lost. Let’s check out what lies in future of 8x10 Tasveer ?

“8x10 Tasveer” is story of Jai [Akshay Kumar] a Forest officer in Canada who has some supernatural powers where he can see the past by watching the photographs of that person. His world gets upset when he comes to know by a detective Happi [Javed jaffery] that his father [Benjamin Gilani] was murdered and dint die by accident. Jai starts doubting everyone from his mother [sharmila Tagore] to his uncle [Anant Mahadevan], Lawyer [Girish karnad] and his friend. He along with help of his fiancé [Ayesha Takia] and Happi takes help of the picture which was just shot few minutes before his father’s accident/death to find out the real truth. Thus starts the journey from one world to another via 8x10 tasveer.

Story is different and good. The concept is so different that it keeps you glued to the screen. Screenplay is good and gripping, except at some parts where it turns out to be total flat. Especially in the climax scenes after the suspense is revealed, the justification angle turns out to be bit lengthy and typical thus dilutes the fizz from the film. There were few more places where justification was needed but the director preferred not to give much like the details of Akshays Power, The reason of Javed Jafferys doubts etc. Editing was required in the last 15 minutes , except that it was great throughout.

Camera work and technically the film looked more of a Hollywood film. Check out the scenes when Akshay goes inside the Photographs, his Dream Scenes and few more. The locals were great and so was the back ground music. Salim Suleman needed to some more magic in the songs, which could had been avoided [its only one song].

Nagesh Kukunoor has tried to give us films of different genre with touch of offbeat and commercial cinema. Out here he has tried to take a different subject but has treated the film in proper commercial manner which except for some part works properly in the favor of the film. Don’t expect another Iqbal or Dor, as this one is far different from films what he has done in past. He has tried to give full justice to the movie by his narration manner and storytelling. Wished he would have kept the same pace and treatment in the climax part.

On performance basis Akshay Kumar has done a great job, his performance will remind you of films like Sangharsh and Ajnabee. It was great to see a tough man like akshay kumar in such mysterious role. Ayesha Takia gives a good support and has done her part properly. Javed Jaffery was a comic relief in the movie with a good role. Sharmila Tagore looked graceful along with Girish Karnad and Benjamin Gilani. Rests all were fine.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hai dum ?

Dumdaar hain for those who like such genre of films . Nagesh and Akshay have come out from their regular flicks and tried to make a film with combo of Thriller and Mystery which turns out to be a good choice.

    Ratings : 3.5/5
