Bollywoods hottest heroine Katrina Kaif tells Rajan Singh why Yuvvraaj will be the film to watch out for
No, not at all. I dont believe in such things. I am just happy to be here and am really lucky. This is the only place I want to be in the world.
But the fact remains that you are the reigning queen.
No, I dont understand that why we have to tag everyone or slot everyone in the places. There are few people who have been here longer than me and they have done more work than me. They have done great films and some variety of roles on the contrary I have just started and its been only three years for me here. I have so much to cover and so much to learn and so much more I know I can do. I have done few great films which were commercial films but there are so many roles I want experiment with so when you put someone in a place that this is as far they can come then you limit that person and I dont want to believe that. I am very fortunate that my fans and audience have been very kind and gracious for most of the part. There is so much more I hope to achieve.
You look beautiful on the posters of Yuvvraaj playing cello.
Its the only instrument in Yuvvraaj that I have played. Actually in retrospect it would be nice for me to play two instruments. Many people who are musicians and play instruments always have one instrument, which is their key instrument, and are focused towards it and they usually know a little bit about the other instrument. In the film I am part of an orchestra and my family is based in Austria. The role is very classical and I mean that if you are part of some orchestra then obviously you are going to love poetry and music. We have tried to maintain that in the look. The film has great costumes in it.
There were also reports in newspapers that you tried some 200 gowns in the film?
No. I would say that I did try some eight to nine gowns. I was happy with six of them but Subhash Ji was not very happy but I used to say that they are beautiful. I finally tried some 10 gowns as Subhash Ji wanted the right look and we all were happy with the final outcome.
In the film we also see Katrina as someone who teaches love to people.
Music is probably the second most important thing in filmmaking. In every film in the form of background score music enhances the emotions in a film. They help the audience understand what they are supposed to feel. Music is the most important toll of a film; I clearly remember what Subhash Ji had once said that music speaks so much about what one is feeling. I myself recall so many special times of my life through music. Music plays a very important part in the film and thats why the catch line says music binds love. In terms of me teaching people how to love, I think thats kind of my hobby anyways. I have always tried giving advice to my co-stars. Obviously I cant give advice to someone like Akshay Kumar, as he is my senior. Currently I am working with people of my age and I have always given them advice on love and on romancing girl friends. Salmans character in the film is of someone who is very confused and a little angry to realize that what the right thing is.
But Katrina dont you think so that the film paints the real life image of Salman.
No, its not like that. Jokes aside, Yuvvraaj is one film that has a great script and a very strong screenplay. The highlight of the film is the equation between Salman and Anil Ji and this has come out beautifully. Its a very important film for us and everyone has put in extra effort. Anil Ji and Subhash Ji share a very special equation with each other. They have done few legendary films in past. I think they were very careful about wanting to match to that level. Salman too shares a very special equation with Subhash Ji and it was important for him to that he did his best in the film.
One strange thing being that the film is being sold to people through you. You are the sole person visible on the poster.
No I dont think so. I think every film has a marketing plan and a marketing strategy. Subhash Ji was very clear from the beginning itself that Yuvvraaj is a poetic and musical film and he did not wanted to mislead the audience in any way. The funny thing about the poster is that everyone in the unit loved the photo when it was taken. The photo has a very symbolic meaning for all of us. Salman has a huge fan following and people will come and see this film because of him at the same time people have this huge expectation from Anil Ji and Subhash Ji. They are definitely the highlights of the film.
There was also this news that Salman wanted to paint that image of yours which is there on Yuvvraaj posters.
I believe he does. I have not seen the painting yet. He liked the picture a lot and just as people put screen savers on their mobile phones, our unit member too had the same photo on their phones when we were shooting the film. It was an on set picture and no special photographer was called in to shoot that photo. It was a special moment for us.
This time we will get to see Salman and you romancing in a full-fledged fashion.
I dont know and for that you have to watch the whole film. Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya was romantic comedy and this time you will get to see a true filmi romance. When you feel that something is important to you then you dont want it to go down as a bad memory. Celluloid is forever and its important for me that in the years to come its remembered positively and fondly by all.
As far as relationship is concerned, Salman has become very vocal about you, whats your take on it?
I think everyone is different. I have stuck to the belief that as an individual I am just not comfortable discussing about my personal life. Salman is a person who is very spontaneous and I think that even those who know him well cannot predict him. He does what he feels like and does what his heart tells him. For the most part I do still believe that what is personal in ones life should remain personal.
After the Salman - SRK spat at your birthday party, will you ever throw a party?
I wont do it again. I firmly believe in vibes. I think you do something meaning well in an environment with too many people and may be if everyone around is not positive then something can happen which could have been avoided. I think for the most part its a lesson that I have learnt and its actually funny because my closest friend told me not to have this party. She is a strong believer in nazar and evil eye stuff. She told me that dont have this party, as she feared something, it can be avoided. It should have been more of a private affair. May be next time it would be my close friends and family. I will just avoid it.
We know about the discomfort between Salman & Shah Rukh and recently you were with Shah Rukh on his tour. Was there any awkwardness working with him henceforth?
No, of course not. If youve spoken to Salman, Im sure he mustve spoken to Shah Rukh at some point. Whatever occurred is completely between them. Im sure theyve spoken about everything that needs to be spoken about. Theyre both very senior and go back much longer when I wasnt even around. I dont think theres any problem as such. I dont see why there should be any awkwardness at all. Shahrukhs been a perfect gentleman & we had a wonderful time on the show.
Lastly, Salman has said he wants to get married next year. No prizes for guessing as to who that person is.
I dont know you should ask him (smiles). I think hes a person who always speaks from the heart and one never really knows what he says & sometimes he just kind of says things. I am 24 and I know I still have a while before Im going to get married. I think one has to be completely comfortable with the person they are first & Im still young, Im still learning who I am in life.
Thanks a ton.
