Q. Abhishek, what's your foremost criterion in choosing your roles? A. As an actor I will only say this that whatever my next role is, it should be different from its previous one. I have this conviction that an actor should try to be different always. Q. Abhishek, please tell us a bit about the gay angle in the film? A. It's a great script and is very funny. For me, it's also a very successful script. After you see the film I am sure that you wont have any doubts about the entertainment factor in the film. I also think that way too much is being made about the homosexuality part in the film.

Abhishek Bachchan speaks to Rajan Singh on the Gay angle in Dostana and lots more!

Abhishek, whats your foremost criterion in choosing your roles?

As an actor I will only say this that whatever my next role is, it should be different from its previous one. I have this conviction that an actor should try to be different always.

Abhishek, please tell us a bit about the gay angle in the film?

Its a great script and its very funny. For me its also a very successful script. After you see the film I am sure that you wont have any doubts about the entertainment factor in the film. I also think that way too much is being made about the homosexuality part in the film. Its just the backdrop in the film. This movie is not a comment on the sexuality element. We are neither propagating it nor negating it. We have utmost respect for that community. Dostana is a romantic comedy and thats it. Its just a film and its a world of make beliefs.

Then why is that the gay angle in the film is being given prominence?

Look, the film is not at all based on gay issue or anything like that. Its all media creation. The film is basically a love triangle and the homosexuality part is just one aspect of it. The plot of the film is such that, myself and John are looking out for a house in Miami to live and the house they earmark belongs to Priyanka who is not willing to let it out to them so in order to work out the deal myself and John pretend to be gays. And based on this premise, she allows us to live in her house. The film begins with a small lie, which later on escalates.

Tell us a bit about the shooting experience?

The whole unit has worked hard a lot for this film and the whole experience of shooting the film was just fabulous.

The music too has caught on in a big way.

I think the music is fantastic. Its youthful, its pulsating. The music can be played anywhere - in clubs, or in your car or rather at every occasion.

These days one can make out that you and john converse with each other with proper eye contact. Is it because of the film?

We both are friends. You should look to a man in his face when you talk to him. We are friends.

You and John must have surely developed a great bonding during the shoot of the film.

Yes, John is a very dear friend of mine. We first met on the sets of Dhoom and from there on, we have remained in touch. John is a great person and he is someone on whom you can really count on.

Karan JoharKaran Johar

We are also witnessing a transformation in Karan Johar brand of cinema, initially he taught us that its all about loving your parents and now he is talking about a different kind of love altogether.

Its not a risky film at all. Its a sweet film, which even kids can go and watch. We were sure from the very beginning that the whole family should watch the film we make and Dostana continues the tradition.

There is also a kissing scene between you and John in the climax; do you foresee any protest from any quarter?

There wont be any protest. It all depends how does media portrays it. Media is the most potent weapon in showing the right from the wrong.

Abhishek, in your opinion who could be the gay icon of this country?

It has to be only John Abraham.

Few people recently saw the film and they praised it a lot, it must have surely given you some impetus post Drona?

Yes definitely. Whenever a film is released and when its praised then it really boosts the confidence of an actor. We are always in search of this. When a film fails to run then one really feels bad because you have worked hard on that film and at that point of time your best effort is not good effort.

Lastly was it difficult doing comedy?

Yes, it was very difficult. Comedy is a very tough genre, as it requires perfect essence of timing.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks.
