Aishwarya talks about her career post marriage

Rajan Singh04 Dec 2008

Q. Has work taken a backseat because of married life? A. I am still very much working and have been managing the time, each day as it comes. But going by the commitments and the films that I have accepted it calls for a very, very hectic schedule but amidst all this I am committed to my personal life and we all are managing it. So far so good and I am glad about everything. You really take each day as it comes and if it means unmanageable for you then it just means cutting back on work.

Has work taken a backseat because of married life?

I am still very much working and have been managing the time, each day as it comes. But going by the commitments and the films that I have accepted it calls for a very, very hectic schedule but amidst all this I am committed to my personal life and we all are managing it. So far so good and I am glad about everything. You really take each day as it comes and if it means unmanageable for you then it just means cutting back on work. As far as films are concerned, yes, I am working currently on Robotand then I am also busy shooting with Mani Ratnams filmright now. Up ahead I have accepted Vipuls movie too. I am also busy speaking to two other people.

Its also being rumored that you were not comfortable working in Dostana as Abhishek played a gay character in the film; the film was first offered to you.

I am glad that you have used the word rumour and if you are asking me it has got nothing to do with comfort or discomfort. I had agreed to be a part of Dostana on the outset and I had principally said yes to the film and we all were looking forward to having a fun time making Dostana and as you can see the movie has turned out fabulously and as you can see in the film, the stars had all the fun doing it. But later on I opted out because firstly the movie was to be shot immediately after our wedding and was meant to come out this summer. Then we discussed among ourselves and wondered how it might turn out. The movie is really about the rapport between Abhishek and Johns character. The love story is there but thats not the real focal point of the story. The film was all about their chemistry and we did not want to take away that chemistry. We wondered that viewers would expect a love story between Abhishek and me as it was to be shot immediately after our wedding. Unlike Sarkar Raj which was bit dark and did not had a love story track, Dostana is much more light and frothy and so I decided to opt out of this film.

Someone has remarked that dancing helped a lot in your career?

I do enjoy dancing because I think dance has helped me with grace and a certain body language. I was too young when I started dancing and Bharatnatyam did help me in a way when i entered the field of modeling. But again I did not go through any formal training. At that point of time everyone told me that since I have dance as the background, it helped me in my posture and gaiety.

You spend so much time traveling abroad and away from your home, how do you make up for the lost time and traveling?

Well in our lives travel does not necessarily means going abroad. Right now I am busy shooting for Mani Ratnams film in Kerala and that too in a very remote place and its not even the main city and so thats almost like traveling away from home. Its not necessary that you are away from home only when you are traveling abroad. Kerala too is pretty far away. What we miss the most is always the family and if Abhishek and me are not working for the same film then it has to be each other. Its our parents and family that we miss the most. Home is where the heart is. Its really about being together and as far as making up for it - every minute counts in our lives. We value the time that we get to spend with each other. Its all about being together and not where we are.

Any comments about the kissing scene between Abhishek and John in Dostana?

I am sure you must have seen the film and liked the film too. Thats all that matters for me.

Ok, which was the first watch brand you used in your life?

Well, to be very honest I dont rememberthe brand. I was so happy with my watch, which my dad had given me as a present. My father is an ex-marine engineer and he was traveling abroad at that time when he had bought that gift for me. He decided about giving me a watch when he felt that the time was suitable for me. I was so happy and I dont remember looking at the brand. My first watch was a gift to me.

Judging by your selection of films, I guess you prefer working with Mani Ratnam on a regular basis?

Time may seem to pass but I never seem to forget or rather I would never forget people that count to me. Mani was my first director and its always a pleasure to work with him. Its a privilege and an honor for any technician or an actor to work with Mani as he is a brilliant film maker and I am sure the country will agree to it. Personally of course I have a soft spot for him. I have a superb working relationship with him. He was my first director.

Any plans for the New Year?

I am not going to be telling this to you but jokes apart New Year is obviously family time. Its always been and we are going to be home spending time together.

Lastly Aishwarya, tell us a bit about the status of Pink Panther?

Well, I have not seen the film yet so I dont know how it has turned out. And as far as how I felt doing the role all I can say is that I loved it. Simply because of the fact that like Dostana,Pink Panther is not a serious film at all, its an entire fun film and as its obvious its got an ensemble of actors who have come together for the film.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks.
