Mere Paas Quota Hai - Aarakshan review

Aarakshan rating: 5 out of 10

With all the anticipation surrounding the release of the movie, I was really expecting high drama on reservation in education, when I entered the theater. But, it didn't take long to realize, it was a reservation of different kinds, that the filmmaker wanted to talk about. All the fiery dialogues are the ones which one has already seen innumerable times, by watching the trailers on televison and theaters. So, when they appear on the big screen, they fail to make an impact. The movie seems like a confused attempt. While the first half of the movie talks about reservation, ... » read more

    A big thumbs down

Aarakshan rating: 1 out of 10

2.5 hours of my life – wasted. I know this is not how one is supposed to begin a review but trust me, there is no better way of reviewing what is easily the worst film I have been subjected to by Bollywood this year!

My personal opinions on the title not withstanding, the movie falls flat from the word go – songs suddenly pop up from the middle of nowhere a la movies of yore, characters spew dialogues like shrieking chickens in an over-packed pen and the script yo yos from one topic to another in the blink of an eye – from reservation to commercialization of education ... » read more

The film had merits to get its reservation.....but

Shyam Benegal, Prakash Jha, Madhur Bhandarkar, Ram Gopla Varma and few others are known for making films on different themes and highlighting the social based issues in their form of films. There is always a buzz and excitement to watch these directors latest movie and after watching it one finds it bit unsatisfied in comparison with the maker’s earlier film. After that again the film lovers wait desperately for these makers to start their new venture with new untouched theme and the rotation continues. Now speaking about the Prakash Jha, the film maker whose film is being ... » read more

    A tale of proper Education!

Aarakshan rating: 7 out of 10

By Mrs Chandra Banerjee(20 Aug 2011)

The name Arakshan... is really not proper for the movie..because it goes away from its goal..to lack of proper education of poor/ all students!
It seems the Principal of a college wants to have discipline in his college and look at his students at par leaving caste and other things at a bay...but he could not fight against the negative force to maintain it.
He did achieve his goal with almost miracle..which is a bit absard.. and a happy ending followed!
The moral of the story is clear.. but the simple solution is hard to digest! It started well with the ... » read more

    Controversial topic but nice movie

Aarakshan rating: 8 out of 10

    By Suchita Mukherjee(11 Sep 2011)

I liked watching this movie. It deals with the controversial topic of quota system in Indian education system. Although the theme was not very appealing to me, I liked the characters of Prabhakar Anand played very convincingly by Amitabh Bachchan and Deepak Kumar played very realistically by Saif Ali Khan. Manoj Bajpai seemed a bit over the top. Deepika Padukone and Tanvi Azmi didn't have much to do in the movie. » read more

    Aarakshan could have been better...

Aarakshan rating: 6 out of 10

After “Rajneeti” Prakash Jha is back with another issue based movie “Arakshan” which deals with the education system in India and how it has become booming business in the last 10 years. It is the story of Prabhakar Anand (Amitabh Bachchan) the principal of a reputed college and his endeavor to fight against corruption in the education system and the nexus of the private coaching institutes. The screenplay written by Prakash Jha & Anjum Rajabali is terrific in the first half wherein the story revolves around the issue of “Arakshan”, but it loses the steam in the second ... » read more
