Abhay Deol, a Pisces boy born on 15 March 1976, India is the son of producer & director Mr Ajit Singh Deol who had witten, directed and produced only one film as of now “Meherbani” (1982).
He is the nephew of the famous veteran actor Dharmendra and his cousins are actors Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and actress Esha Deol.
In one of his interview he said that at the age of 18 only he decided to jump into the film industry as an actor but also didn't want to leave his studies, so it took almost 10 years to get into the films. He also said that he had four professions in mind: acting, painting, philosophy and journalism but finally he had choosen acting. He is a lover of Iranian films because as per him "they make something magical out of the simplest subjects."
He made his debut film in the year 2005 “ Socha Na Tha” (released on 4th of March 2005) opposite to Ayesha Takia which was produced by his uncle Dharmendra. The film appreciated for his performance but it didn’t do well in the box office. His second film was Ahista Ahista opposite to Soha Ali Khan released on the 18th of August 2006 which was also unfortunately a box office flop but on a positive side he also got a good critical reviews for his performance.
Then he was appeared in “Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.” opposite to Minissha Lamba which was released on the 23rd of February 2007 with a multi starcast and has emerged to be his first major box office success.
His second 2007 release was “Ek Chalis Ki Last Local” (released on the 18th of May 2007) opposite to Neha Dhupia for which the film did an average business at some selected multiplexes.
His latest released film was “Manorama Six Feet Under” opposite to Gul Panang and Raima Sen released on the September of 21st , 2007 which was a disaster at the box office.
All of the films he has starred in have been helmed by debutante directors.
His upcoming films are “Meridian” with Irfan Khan and Arjun Rampal, “Junction” opposite to Vidya Malvade, “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!” with Paresh Rawal and Neetu Chandra and “Dev D” with Kalki and Mahi Gill.
