Satyajit Ray’s “Abhijaan” was an extremely unique travelogue, catapulted by Soumitra Chattopadhyay’s splendid performance. Ray adapted a Tarashankar Bandyopadhyay story for his film. The film was a first of it’s kind & remained as one in the history of Indian film noir. It was produced by Abhijatrik & distributed by Chhaylok Pvt. Ltd. The film was all about the journey of a Sikh driver Narsingh (Soumitra) & his bizarre encounters. The film came alive with Bangsi Chandragupta’s art direction, Soumendu Roy’s camera & Dulal Dutta’s editing. The film released on 28th September, 1962 & had wounderful music composed by Satyajit Ray. Besides Soumitra, Waheeda Rahman, Gyanesh Mukherjee, Ruma Guhathakurta, Charu Prakash Ghosh & Robi Ghosh romped in a rendezvous of performances. “Abhijaan” will remain as a classic forever.
