    Sheer Poetry

Abohoman, true to its name, flows relentlessly over its movie time, over lifetime, from here to eternity. Moving from past to present, moving over lives intertwined, over star-crossed entities, the best thing about Abohoman is it’s fluidity that takes you through emotions, where you take a dip and can emerge stronger. Rituporno has proved time and again that he is a very sensitive film maker; he can identify the gamut of emotions, sometimes small passing reflections, perhaps comparable only to the range of emotions portrayed through Tagore’s songs. Every character is strong ... » read more

Abohoman : The Passing On Without Breaking Grounds

Abohomaan rating: 5 out of 10

    By Dipen Guha(08 Feb 2010)

Rituporno Ghosh's latest venture "Abohoman" has failed to break ground. As the title suggests, the plot relates something that is in vogue down the ages. The mentor-minion/ muse rapport is irrespective of time and place. The relation between Girish Ghosh and Nati Binodini has been synchronised to the current context with the added intervention of the successive generation. Aniket Mazumdar, acclaimed to be the maker of films for the genteel society falls in with a lady of plebian class Sikha who is cast in his dream-project "Natibinodini". Now, the Pygmalian practice is ... » read more

    Defining Relationships

Abohomaan rating: 6 out of 10

    By Aditya Chakrabarty(23 Jan 2010)

Rituparno Ghosh’s films have essentially been women centric or primarily been on relationships between certain people. His latest film Abohoman, deals with the story of an art film maker Aniket Majumdar and his affair with an actress Srimati(formerly known as Shikha), whom he moulds into a fine actress and transforms her into a sophisticated human being from her rustic surroundings. He slowly gets involved with and when he has a full fledged affair with her, his entire family is affected and gives up on him though they are later shown to accept it as well. The father and ... » read more

Not Only The Relationship Between Mentor And Muse

Abohomaan rating: 7 out of 10

By Chandi Mukherjee (27 Jan 2010)

Rituparno Ghose’s “Abohomaan” deals with the mentor’s relationship with his muse. And he believes this pygmalionish relationship is eternal. It happens everywhere, it happens in every ages.
Though “Abohomaan” tells the story of Aniket (Dipankar Dey) and Sikah (Ananya Chatterjee), it may also be the story of either Guru Dutt-Waheeda Rahman or Jean Lue Godurd-Anna Karina or Woody Altea- Mia Furrow or Himanshu Rai-Debika Rani. It happened in the 40’s of the last century, it is happening even today.
Aniket is a film maker who makes films for the class, not mass. When ... » read more

Though the film s' title is Abohoman this is not a regular case of life! And it cannot be a typical story of film line either. The relationship of a man and a woman can be formed in thousand and one cases if not more and it is true that how people are attracted to each other no one knows. The relationship with the director and the actress with a huge age difference does not new story at all people do fall in love under srtange circumstances and brings sorrow in their established family.
Rituporno is sucessful in bringing up the movie in such a manner. the cast id ... » read more
