Anand Bakshi was born on July 21, 1920 in Rawalpindi. His family migrated to India on October 2, 1947 after the partition. After a few days, Anand Bakshi got a job as a switch board operator. Meanwhile, he tried to to get a chance in Hindi films. Apparently, He was more interested in singing than in writing.
Anand Bakshi was first given a chance as a lyricist by Bhagwan Dada for the film Bhala Aadmi(1958), directed by Brij Mohan. He also wrote for a few other small films. However, he was not yet a recognised lyricist. Anand Bakshi came into limelight with Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965). The songs of this film were a huge hit, and Anand Bakshi got offers from various big banners to work.
