Aziz Mirza was born in 1947 in Bombay. His father Akhtar Mirza was a famous script writer. So, Aziz had the influence of Hindi films right from his childhood. He just wanted to be involved with films in some way. That is why he even played small part in forgettable films like Pyaasa Dil (1974), Sandhya (1975) and Sandhya (1980). In 1985, He set up a production company with his brother Saeed Akhtar Mirza and his friend Kundan Shah, Iskra.
In 1989, He directed a TV serial Circus, based on the lives and trauma of the people who work in Circus. The soap opera was hugely popular at a time when TV was the only other source of entertainment than Films. This serial also made Shah Rukh Khan, then a newcomer, a household name.
