Hema Malini was born in Ammankudi, Tamil Nadu, on Octobar 16th 1948. She is the daughter of Shri V.S.R. Chakravarty and Shrimati Jaya Chakravarthy (Iyengar Brahmins), who was a film producer. She did her studies from Andhra Mahila Sabha, Chennai. Hema, who always dreamt of being an actress, started pursuing her career at the young age of sixteen.
Her first role was a short episode as a dancer in Pandava Vanavasam a 1961 Telugu film. Subsequently she tried to enter films in 1964, but was rejected outrightly. However, with her efforts, and persistance not stopping her, she was launched in Sapno Ka Saudagar(1968), against the ageing superstar Raj Kapoor.
