K. Asif biography

Karimuddin Asif (June 14, 1924 - March 9, 1971) is most well known for his directorial debut - Phool which had the best names of Hindi cinema at that time - Prithviraj Kapoor, Durga Khote and Suraiya. Some Hindi cinema pundits however beg to differ saying that his is the name that is associated with the greatest Hindi film of all times - Mughal-e-Azam (1960). Asif's original plan was to have Chandramohan opposite Nargis in the story of Anarkali. Unfortunately Chandramohan passed away prematurely and Asif took time to rethink his plans. He utilised the interim time period by directing Hulchul(1951). The new plan for Mughal-e-Azam had Madhubala and Dilip Kumar and the shooting began.
