Kankabati Bhaduri was born in Muzaffarpur in the year 1903. Her father was a jamindar and his name was Gadadhar Prasad Sahu. She was popular by the name “Kankabati” only. Kankabati did her primary education in Muzaffarpur, then she shifted to Kolkata. She graduated at the age of 22 from Bethun College, Kolkata in the year 1925. She couldn’t complete her Masters degree from Culcutta University due to her acting career.
She started her acting career in 1928 in the drama “Digbijoyee” of Natyamandir of Sishir Bhaduri. In the same year she made her debut film through the silent movie “Bicharak”.
