Mahua Roychoudhury was born in Kolkata on September 24th, 1958. Her actual name was Shipra. Director Tarun Majumdar named her ‘Mahua’. Her father’s name is Nuilanjan Roychoudhury. She had a knack of dancing from her childhood. Due to her attraction to dancing she could not continue her studies. She studied upto 8th standard in Ratnagar Vidyamandir, Dumdum. She made her debut in the film “Sreeman Prithwiraj” in 1973 directed by Tarun Majumdar.
Her major film were, “Je Jekhane Danriye”, “Bagh Bandi Khela”, “Babu Mosay”, Dadar Kirti”, Aaj Kaal Porshur Golpo”, “Abhimaan”, “Kapal Kundala” etc. She received National Recognition after dancing in “Admi Aur Aurat” directed by Tapan Sinha.
