Manju Dey was born in Baharampore on May 7th, 1926. Her father’s name was Amarendranath Mitra and her mother was Kamala Mitra. She passed her Higher Secondary Examination from Baharampore Girls School in the year 1942. She passed the IA from Patna Rajendra College, in Calcutta and got admitted in the Culcutta University for MA. But she got married to Debabrata Dey in the year 1948 and that stopped her further education.
She participated in a parade in 1945. Watching that director Sushil Majumdar gave her a chance in his patriotic Hindi Film “Sipahi Ka Swapna”.
