Mohan Segal was born on December 1, 1921 in Jalandhar. In 1947, Mohan came to Bombay as he wanted to be a film maker. He played a small part in a film Afsar (1950). But He always wanted to b a director.
His first film as a director was Aulad (1954). He also directed Adhikar (1954). He then turned producer and made the film New Delhi (1956) on his own terms.
Mohan Segal’s breakthrough film was Apna Haath Jagannath (1960). This film was a commercial success. He was also the executive director on Anpadh (1962). However, Mohan Segal’s turning point was the much acclaimed Dewar (1966) starring Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore. This film really established him as a credible film maker.
