Motilal (real name Motilal Rajyavansh ) was born in Simla in 1910. In early 1930s, Motilal came to Bombay to act in hindi films.
Motilal’s first film was Vatan Parasta (1934). He did many more films as the leading hero, before he neatly shifted to playing character roles. He did around 20 films as a hero.
Motilal’s first widely acclaimed and most popular role was in Bimal Roy’s Devdas (1955), where he played the role of Chunni Babu, Devdas’ friend. He won a lot of accolades for his natural performance. Motilal went on to do many more films in such supporting but strong characters. His notable films in the late 50s are Jagte Raho (1956), Ab Dilli Door Nahin (1957), Anari (1959) and Paigham (1959).
