Mukesh (real name Mukesh Chand Mathur) was born on July 22, 1923 in Punjab. He was the sixth child to his parents. After completing high school, Mukesh left school and started working for Delhi Dept. Mukesh was noticed by Motilal at his sister’s wedding where he was singing. Motilal was so impressed by his voice and singing ability that he took Mukesh to Bombay. Not only did Motilal arrange a place for Mukesh to stay, but also music lessons for Mukesh to hone his skills.
Mukesh’s first song was “Dil Hi Bujha Hua To” from Nirdosh (1941), where He also acted in. Mukesh’s first popular song was “Dil Jalta Hai to Jalne De” from Pehli Nazar (1945), which was a huge hit.
