Promod Gangopadhay was born in the year 1910 in Kolkata. His father was sri Prakash Gangopadhay. Promod Gangopadhay passed law in the year 1931.
Promod Gangpadhay was first recognised when the members of the Adarsha Chitra Limited (Bombay) had come to Kolkata in search of a new face. They wanted to take Promod Gangopadhay to Bombay but Promd Gangopadhay declined. Finally by the request of the head of the committee he went to Bombay in 1935 and singed Hireb Basu’s film ‘Piya ki jogan’. In bengali he singed his first film called Amar Geeti of the same director which was released in the year 1940.
