Raj Babbar was born on June 26, 1952 at Agra, Uttar Pradesh. His early education was completed at Agra. Later he did his graduation in theatre from National School of Drama, New Delhi. Babbar came in contact with great Marxist leader Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia while pursuing his academic career. Consequently Babbar developed a keen interest in Marxist philosophy and politics.
He started his filmi career opposite one of the well known actress of that time, Reena Roy in Hindi film "Sau Dina Saas Ke (100-days of mother-in-law).
