Sanghamitra Bandopadhay was born on August 1959 in Benaras. Her father was Subhas Mukhopadhay. She passed her Madhyamik from Mahakali Pathsala, B.A from Presidency College and M.A in Sanskrit from Culcutta University.
She made her debut in the film “Kalankini Kankabati” directed by Mahanayak Uttam Kumar in 1981. She established herself as a Vamp-girl of Bengali films. She has acted in atleast 60 films including “Amrito Kumbher Sandhane”, “Joy Parajoy”, “Anutap”, “Chhoto Boi”, “Sedin Chayitramash”, “Prem Sangee” etc. She learnt dancing from Thakmoni Kutty, Bela Arnab, Parimal Krishna and Ramgopal.
