Sita was born in July 1916 in Shibibas village of Nadia. Her father was Durgananda Bandopadhay. She studied in Melhadist School of Singapore and passed junior Cambridge from French convent.
She married advocate Subimal Mukhopadhayin 1936 and stayed in Bombay. She was actively attached with the world of culture of Bombay. She has acted in many Hindi films at a time. She made her film debut in Bengali in the film “Lukochuri” directed by Kishore Kumar in the year 1958. She acted in several Bengali film including Ritwik Ghatak’s “Ajantrik”, Satyajit Ray’s “Teen Kanya” and Rajen Tarafdar’s “Ganga”. Sita was the founder of “Induvan Cultural League”.
