  • AGNEEPATH... AGNEEPATH... AGNEEPATH...

Agneepath rating: 7 out of 10(Akhtar Ali Sayyed wrote on 27 Jan 2012)

    Agneepath….

Whenever we hear the word Agneepath, first thing that flashes in the mind is AMITABH BACHCHAN as VIJAY DINANATH CHAUHAN; created by Mukul S Anand in 1990… In an Interview I heard Karan Johar saying that his Father was upset by Box office outcome of that movie, though it was critically acclaimed all over… it was the main reason for recreating Agneepath in a new look…

So, the question arises; will this Agneepath give peace to Yash johar’s soul or will it burn his soul in an Agnee of the remake Path???

Let’s try to find out the answer….

Agneepath is a story of Vijay (Hritik Roshan) whose father Dinanath Chauhan was killed by cruel Kancha (Sanjay Dutt) and the entire village… Vijay moves to Mumbai and in a due course becomes a right hand of the Mafia Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor)… how Vijay reaches Kancha and takes his revenge is the rest…

The Plot of story looks similar to the old Agneepath… by Kara Malhotra and Ila dutta has changed the entire screenplay… flow wise; first half starts with a big bang. You cannot imagine the uncontrollable shouting at Kancha’s entry…
    To talk about few scenes…

    - Kancha’s Entry
    - Hanging Master Dinananth Chauhan on Tree
    - Rauf Lala auctions the girl
    - Young Vijay kills a police officer
    - Vijay’s (hritik’s) enrty
    - Vijay’s call to Gaitonde (Om puri) followed by blast (Pehlwan banne ki shuruwat)
    - Vijay kills Mazhar Lala (Rajesh Tandon)
Were the highlights of the first half… but there were ups and down in the flow of the movie…

Second half was better than first one… If we talk about good scenes…
    - Kancha, Vijay’s telephonic conversation
    - Vijay’s Mandva visit
    - Kancha hangs Vijay by legs and throws him on Walls…
    - Vijay and Lala’s fight
    - Shiksha visits to vijay’s basti

Second half goes good, but crashes down in the climax…
Climax scene goes fabulous till Kancha pulls Vijay to the tree but suddenly vijay got the power and takes up the big monster Kancha on his head and throws him down… and hangs him to the tree, was something indigestible…

It clearly seems that Karan Malhotra and Ila dutta failed to create the magic of the old movie by their screenplay…

On the other hand Piyush Mishra did the great job by writing some great lines as dialogues…
Piyush Mishra understood the characters and based on that he framed some fantastic dialogues, which keep the interest alive in the movie… but I loved the dialogues written in the old one by Kader Khan…

Sabu Cyril did a fantastic work on set designing… sets were really terrific… Mandira Shukla’s costumes were great…

Musically, Ajay Atul’s music is average… Gun Gun Guna, Chikni Chameli were good… saiyyan was wasted and rest are Ok Ok… The background score was good but not as better as it was in Singham… Ajay Atul didn’t manage to meet the expectation created by them… Agneepath was weakin terms of music
Now if we talk about performances…

Hritik Roshan as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan looks powerful… his expressions, emotions, dialogues, action scenes, etc… all were good… but he fails to over pass the benchmark of the actual Vijay Dinanath Chauhan… that’s Amitabh Bachchan… He will always remain the real Vijay Dinanath Chauhan…

Priyanka Chopra as Kali was good but not too impressive… but she was wasted…

Rishi Kapoor was one of the finest things in the movie to be watched… Performance wise, he portrayed the negative at his best… His scenes with Hritik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt were fabulous… in some scenes, he looked really brutal… Even he was fantastic in action scenes…

Om Puri, Zarina Wahab, Rajesh Tandon, and others were good…

But above all, It was Sarva-Shaktishali, Sarva-Shaktimaan…. Kancha…
Sanjay Dutt… He was the real show stealer… his performance, dialogues and his presencemade the entire movie worth… he gave new horizon to the name Kancha…
Instead of AGNEEPATH... AGNEEPATH... AGNEEPATH… I would say SANJAY DUTT... SANJAY DUTT... SANJAY DUTT…

Director Karan Malhotra somehow failed to create the charm of the actual Agneepath… or we can say Amitabh’s charm was missing in the entire movie… his entry “VIJAY DINANATH CHAUHAN… POORA NAAM”, his dialogues, his performance is unmatchable… though Karan tried to make this as an action packed emotional movie…

You will also miss KRISHNAN IYER M.A., NATHU KAKA, SHETTY, TERELIN and USMAN as well…

The diehard fans of Amitabh’s Agneepath may not like this attempt…

I will not say that this Agneepath is a bad attempt; its surely failed to touch the benchmark created by the Mukul Anand’s Classic, though being a decent attempt…

    In simple words….

Agneepath is full fledge action packed movie with some great dialogues and performances…

But it has travelled from Vijay’s Agneepath to Kancha’s Agneepath…

I would like to rate it as 3.5/5 for some great performance , dialogues and Kancha…
