Jamraj and Chitrogupta are discussing their present conditions. In the meanwhile Salil Sen a political leader died and came to heaven's court. Jamraj and Chitrogupta decided that this person was the brain behind many anti social activities and they created hell on earth for him. So he was made to take birth in a middle class family. This new man was Shyamal Banerjee (Soumitra Chatterjee), a simple clerk living with his wife, two sons and two daughters. When Salil’s soul entered Shyamal’s body, he felt every thing was very uncertain and insecure. Every day was a struggle for him. Shyamal realized the pain of the general people. Nipa was Shyamal's neighbour and after her father's death when Raju (Biplab Chatterjee) tried to extort money from her, Shyamal saved her. On the other side Raju made a plan to kidnap Shyamal’s younger daughter Shyama (Satabdi Roy). When Shyamal came to know this he took all the protection he could get. One day Raju tried to flirt with Shyama, but her innocent behaviour made him realize that Shyama was like a sister to him. But Shyamal misunderstood the relationship and informed Netai (Ramen Rouchowdhury) who killed Raju. Shyamal came to know everything from Shyama and was filled with remorse. On the other side in his office a union leader Kali Goswami (Rabi Ghosh) called for a strike for his own profit. Shyamal came to know his plan and raised an objection. Kali took revenge and killed Shyamal but he also died in the process. So poetic justice prevailed.
