'Aiyya' halla macahaye re.....
Expectations: With the name 'Aiyya' and Rani mukherjee, you will surely expect of getting a south - indian brilliant yet different comedy flick. About its music, we all know how conceptual and versatile 'Amit Trivedi' has been recently. Ishaqzaade and English Vinglish both were decent. But the question stands - Can amit trivedi withstand this South Indian challange? Lets find out.
1. 'Dreamum Wakeupum'(Soumya rao):
Album kicks - off with a typical South - themed 'Dreamum wakeupum' rendered by soumya rao. Its hard to say as how many of us are going to hit the repeat button. 'Dreamum' is a folk - based funny edition where amit trivedi has used some smart arrangements - like mridangam, nadaswaram(south indian version of shehnai) and bit ghatam. The best part of the song is soumya rao's ahaaa kissing timings. Even those techno beats are quite impressive to carry you tovards south - indian stylo. Amitabh bhattacharya's lyrics are funny with a 'dhinchaak feel'. With words like - 'Dreamum wakeupum criticalll conditionam', 'jumpingum pumpingum', 'Lovelesst double qast bada - beatnum' any many more are very much Funny and Catchy. Even not chart - buster its a 'Block - Buster track'!
2. 'Sava Dollar' (Sunidhi chauhan):
Amit Trivedi starts the song with usage of 'Thalam' and 'Tavil' having that dholki fluence. Accompaning sunidhi chauhan's another sizzling performance. You are gonna love the moment sunidhi recites - 'paedon ke aage Bacchan' and the mimicry of Amitabh bacchan during this moment. The track tells the dream of rani, she wants to become a Heroine. Inspired from our own old indian cinema, Its all in all her character's Dream story. Hats - off to Amitabh Battacharya for his traditional yet naughty lyrics. Has a bit of maratha taste. A track with appealing moments!
3. 'Aga Bai' (Shalmali Kholgade and Monali Thakur):
Even if the two songs weren't enough for you, get surprised by this Bombastic composition. The start will fool you with soft patterns and once it picks up the pace, there is no stopping the techno and pacy fusions till the end. Amit trivedi's trumiph card 'Shalmali Kholgade', yet proves wonderful. Remember 'pareshaan - Ishaqzaade', One of the best by amit. Even Monali thakur's 'aga bai halla machayee re' and 'aiiyaaa' reciting chorous are peppy and entertaining. This is turning to be a dreamrun for amit. Again lyrics are a mixture of marathi and hindi that impress you a lot. 'Aga bai' is on fire.
4. 'Mahek Bhi' (Shreya Goshal):
Its a welcome break from frenetic high intensity of prevous songs as of its simplicity. Synchronised with shehnai, violin, piano tunes, little guitar and sweet whistling. A soft tingling lovesome number. Give a soothing elemental taste and bit of sad moody instances. Its a typical amit trivedi composition that we have often heard, yet impressive. All the musical arrangements are stand - outs. 'Mahek bhi' is a lovely composition mesmerised by soulful vocals of shreya. 'Mahek bhi' will provide a nice contrast to this soundtrack. Can't resist the temptation!
5. 'What to do' (Sneha Khanwalkar and Amitabh Bhattacharya):
Only one word to describe this song - hilarious!Haaahahah. ........reminds me of that old lijjat pappad advertisement that we used to see during our doordarshan days. Is it inspired from that? However, Damn funny! What to say, its a double - meaning track! But the words 'izzat pappad', 'mera kurkuraa karrara ijjat pappad', 'I am a pussy cat manchali', 'doggy dilon ki hun khalbali' and that 'cat meoowww' from sneha khanwalker is crouchy, naughty and saucy. It has a bit of folky affluence in between and some indian classical arranged with the mood. Amitabh Battacharya is good in his part. The end of the song is really funny with amitabh's sensual sounds and sneha's biggg kissi. Reminds of 'Don't know what to do - Housefull'. Give it a try - A winner song!
6. 'Wakda' - 'Amit Trivedi':
The soundtrack concludes here with 'wakda' sung by Amit trivedi himself. Meaning 'crooked' in marathi, 'wakda' describes the: plot which is bad or good at each end. Amit trivedi has done suitable arrangements for a one time listen. It will sound better on screen though. A safe - closing!
Overall - 'Aiyya' is a truimphant album all the way. Dares to be quality entertainer with experimental tracks that are promising. Amit trivedi shows his real - class with 'Aiyya', a mix of styles, tastes and generes. An intelligently packaged complication. For me 'Aiyya' is a Amit trivedi's new age indian classical keeping his head - high taunting other composers for less usage of indian classical. Hard to predict its musical success for all but certainly will be liked by indian classical lovers.
