For next two years, Jaan (1996) was his only film which managed to recover its costs. He also did Indra Kumar’s Ishq (1997), which showed his latent comic timing. Ishq was a huge hit, and Ajay devgan was back. Ishq also kicked off a romance between him and Kajol. Year 1998 brought a major turn in Ajay devgan’s career. Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha was A Blockbuster, while he got a lot of acclaim for his mature performance in Zakhm (1998). He went on to win a National award for this performance. Ajay Devgan carried the success of 2002 in 2003, where Qayamat, Bhoot and Gangaajal were hits. In Qayamat, Ajay was back to his action film days, and his fans couldn’t be happier. His other liked roles were in Khakee (2004) (where he essayed a cold blooded criminal), Yuva (2004), and Raincoat (2004). 2005 saw his lull period, where 6 out of 8 films were disasters at Box-office.
