    Ajit Chattopadhay was born on 11th May,1921 in Kolkata and his nickname was Habul. In 1934, he passed matriculation from Kolkata Training Academy. His cousin, famous singer Vishwadev Chattopadhay introduced him to comedian Nani Dasgupta. He has learnt acting from Nani Dasgupta and Chittaranjan Goswami. He was a versatile artist who was a singer and tabla player at the same time.

    In 1933, he got a work in the publicity section of Radha Studios. In 1934, director Charu Roy gave him his first break in the film “Rajnoti Basantasena”. Janak Nandini(1939), Purbaraag(1947), Neel Akasher Niche(1959) are some of his movies. He was linked with theatre and worked with famous comedians like Jahar Roy. He was associated with Rangmahal group theatre. He passed away on 17th February, 1993.
