Ajitesh Bandopadhay is a distinguished actor of Bengali silver screen and stage who made his presence felt in the world of acting.
Ajitesh Bandopadhyay was born on 30th September, 1933 in Ropagram, Asansol. He passed matriculation from Kulti High School . He first joined Asansol College but finished his B.A in English Honors from Manindra College in 1957.He had taken up teaching as a profession for few days.
Actor Kali Bandopadhay took him to director Tapan Sinha . Tapan Sinha offered him a role in “Athiti” in 1965. He has acted in several films like Haate Bazare (1967) , Notun Pata (1969) , Kuheli (1971) , Mouchak (1983). He was an active theatre personality an director. In 1969, he established Nandikar theatre organization which gave him enormous popularity. Later in 1977, he left Nandikar to start new group, Nandimukh. He had adapted many European plays in to Bengali and written some very interesting plays himself.
In 1976, he got Sangeet Natyak Academy award for his directorial ventures in theatre.
