Chinku is young impish kid who stays with his greedy uncle... the story begins one evening in a mall where Chinku has gone with his uncle. Once there Chinku gets into trouble when he stands up for a little kid who is being scolded by a mean man for dropping ice-cream on his shoe. With the mean man hard on his tail, Chinku takes refuge in an Arabian Nights stall and is sucked up by an enchanted talking book.
Through this book, Chinku reaches the magical fantasy land of Alibaba and forty thieves. It’s a wonderful world, which Chinku loves and is scared off in equal parts. But one thing leads to another and Chinku gets embroiled in the story of Alibaba and the forty thieves.
He becomes a great friend of Alibaba, Suleiman (Alibaba’s calamity-cursed camel whose name is his own worst enemy), Pasha (Alibaba’s gullible little dog who lives in Suleiman’s shadow) and Marjinah (the beautiful, intelligent maid at his brother’s house)...
While he makes some great friends he also makes a diabolic and dangerous enemy. And that enemy is Abu Hasan... the evil and brutal leader of the 40 thieves. When they cross their paths for the first time, by accident Chinku loses his locket, the one thing that he values almost as much as life to one of the 40 thieves... and instead he grabs onto a dagger that is the very life of Abu Hasan.
Now Abu Hasan is after Chinku to get the dagger back (Abu Hasan being helped by Chinku’s greedy Uncle!)... And their paths cross in an action filled climax that happens in equal parts in the real world (in Marine Drive) and in the fantasy world of Alibaba...
So, as characters from the real world and the fantasy world cross onto the other side, the two worlds themselves collide in an explosion of fun, action and fantasy...
In the end Chinku does his best to disentangle the two worlds and return to his own... while the gateway itself is closing up forever.
He returns a more grown up, mature and responsible kid... ready not just for life but for more adventures in many more fantasy worlds to come...
