Alok Nath was born on July 10, 1956. He was always interested in films, but he began taking acting seriously when one of his father’s friends offered him a role in a move, which was being made by his elder cousin.

Alok Nath’s first film was the Oscar winning Gandhi (1982), where he played the role of Tyeb Mohammed, a legendary freedom fighter. His performance was noticed, and he started getting small roles in Hindi films. His first Hindi film was Aaj Ki Awaaz (1984).

Alok Nath rose to popularity with Ramesh Sippy’s famous TV serial Buniyaad (1987), where he played Master Haveli Ram, the protagonist. Buniyaad went on to be the most famous and first soap opera of Indian Television history, and Alok Nath became a household name. His role in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) also left an impression. However, Alok Nath’s breakthrough film was Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). He played the role of a doting father very convincingly. The movie was a big big hit if its times, and Alok Nath got typecast as a goody-goody father. Although he did do some negative roles like in Bol Radha Bol (1992) and got appreciation, it was his portrayals of a patriarch that suited him the best. His another most memorable role was in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994).

After Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Alok Nath hardly did anything mentionworthy. However, his performances in Taal (1997) and Pardes (1999) proved he could do serious roles equally well. In Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), Alok Nath was at his typecast best. Although he kept doing character roles, His popularity didn’t remain as before. His last notable film was Vivah (2006), where he played Amrita Rao’s doting uncle to perfection. Alok Nath also works in TV serials.
