Amisha Patel was born on June 9, 1976. She is the grand-daughter of the famous lawyer Rajni Patel. Amisha finished her schooling from Cathedral and John Connon School in 1993, and she graduated from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. When she came back to India, she joined Satyajeet Dubey’s theatre.
Amisha Patel made her debut with Rakesh Roshan’s Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000), which also introduced Hrithik Roshan. She replaced Kareena Kapoor, who wanted a “different” film to make a debut with. Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was a super hit, and Amisha Patel became the talk of the town. However, Amisha Patel decided to go slow on signing films. Her next film Gadar: Ek prem katha (2001) too was a blockbuster, and Amisha Patel now was being touted as a Lucky Mascot.
However, she failed to live to her success of her first two films and had to suffer 5 flops for a hit. The hit was Abbas-mustan’s Humraaz (2002), and it made up for her previous disasters at box office Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar (2001), Kranti (2002), Kya Yehi pyaar hai (2002), Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage (2002) and Yeh Hai Jalwa (2002). With Humraaz, Amisha Patel was back in the competition.
Unfortunately, Amisha couldn’t bank on her success. All her films flopped thereafter. Although she bagged a small role in Ketan Mehta’s The Rising (2005), The film didn’t live upto the hype and Amisha’s performance went unnoticed. In 2006, she had six releases but all of them bombed at the box-office. However, she won some accolades for her performance in Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007). She was also noticed in Bhool Bhulaiyya (2007) for her graceful looks. Amisha Patel won Filmfare jury award for her performance in Gadar (2001). She also won the Zee cine award and Star Screen Award for Best debut for Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. Amisha is interested in dancing from her childhood and has been learning Bharatnatyam since the age of five. She is a gold medallist in Economics. She sued her parents a few years ago, when they made her bankrupt by investing all her saved money in Shares. Actor Ashmit Patel is her brother.
